Re: LHC: God Particle may have been glimpsed

At CM, blocking only refers to login attempts, not to browsing! I was anonymously browsing only. Browsing is definitely being blocked. You were visiting CM occasionly, as you wrote. In these cases you also did not encounter a problem reading posts? That was some time ago, and no problems as far as ...

Re: LHC: God Particle may have been glimpsed

If you manage to read my thread via shatters.net as a logged-out guest, but not as a logged-in shatters.net user, one possible reason that comes to my mind could be your "unusual" user name. Possibly, its syntax collides with some implicit settings or forgotten explicit settings in our bo...

Re: LHC: God Particle may have been glimpsed

Fridger, Just wondering why you have posted a link to the celestialmatters forum in my thread here, yet when I try to visit that link I find I am banned from browsing your forum. This seems a little strange, as your reply to my thread suggests you are trying to attract visitors to your board. David ...

Re: This is really annoying...

Fridger, Thanks for the video. Interesting, but like most programs of that nature it seemed to be pitched at a mainstream audience, so didn't really go into the details of the actual physics, still, I learned a little from it. :) I was quite amused by Alvaro de Rujula's comments... Alvaro de Rujula:...

Re: Opening Celestia 1.6 bug

There has been some confusion, controversy, even distaste for these 2 usernames (amongst others), but I can only say that I just couldn't resist setting up this username in response to Fridger's request (as he was in a joking mood  ). So just to avoid any further confusion, and not wanting to ...

Re: This is really annoying...

I had a thought... One way to find evidence for a specific topology might be to look for some "predicted effect" in 4 dimensional space. This would have to be an effect which has no other explanation. (This of course assumes that the extra dimensions have an interaction with our dimension...

Re: This is really annoying...

The main problem is that it is very hard to falsify String Theory, since it does not make a single testable prediction (unlike the Gauge theories that it incorporates). Is the reason that it is un-testable: because the physics we have access to is "stuck" in 3+1 dimensions and therefore w...

Re: This is really annoying...

while it is remarkable that you are able to associate SU(3)XSU(2)XU(1) to (Particle) Physics at an age of 14 ;-) , I must be a child prodigy! No, seriously, any average 14 year old knows how to GOOGLE. this word is NOT particularly related to String Theory. It rather denotes the Lie symmetry...

Re: This is really annoying...

SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) IMO is a perfectly acceptable username for this forum, at least as much, if not more so than SiriusCG . Perhaps you need to educate yourself just a little in physics (in paticular, "string theory") before your next visit. I suggest you start: HERE and HERE , and HERE .

A useful Winmerge filter

I've recently started using WinMerge to syncronize a couple of directory structures in order to keep a backup (one's a copy/backup of the other on an external drive.) Now windows has this nasty habit of creating a hidden file called thumbs.db in any image folder and this is constantly updated by the...
