Re: 7.1 Christchurch Earthquake Simulation
The earth has been fairly quiet here over the last few days, in fact yesterday was the first day since Christmas in which we went for more than 24 hours without a single quake: ql-20120114-0330.jpg Usually after things have been quite for a while, it seems that the stress is accumulating again, and ...

Re: SSD drives valid for Celestia??
I would suggest you investigate "SSD caching" : http://www.anandtech.com/show/4329/intel-z68-chipset-smart-response-technology-ssd-caching-review/2 I don't know if your hardware would support this (let alone the issue of putting a second drive into your laptop). The idea is that you can re...

Re: Newly discovered habitable planet: Kepler-22b
No need to apologize, you're just as entitled to make addons, as I am. ;-) I try not to use Wikipedia as it is often wrong (only as a last resort). I used the following sources: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/kepler/news/kepscicon-briefing.html http://exoplanet.eu/catalog-all.php?runit=&munit...

Re: Newly discovered habitable planet: Kepler-22b
Hi Shog, Thanks for your addon. FYI, I have already created an addon for this system earlier in the month which looks to be very similar to yours. (see here: http://shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16696&p=128518#p128518 ) People who may have downloaded both versions should be aware th...

Hmmm....kristoffer wrote:So, possible habitable for other races, not humans
That would be exciting
... Not sure if I'd like to meet up with a race that has evolved in 5 g's (given the human race's propensity for getting into fights! )

Re: Request for planet creation
Kepler telescope has confirmed the first habitable planet. the planet orbit the sun-like star Kepler-22, and the planet is 2.4 times the size of Earth. It is inside the "habitable zone" Here's a very rudimentary add-on for the star and it's planet. Unzip to your extras folder, and go to K...

Re: earth trojan L4 "asteroid 2010 TK7"
An addon showing 2010 PK7 in Celestia:
The orbital elements are taken from the wiki page mentioned by the OP.
(Please advise any errors).
The bodyframe rotation is purely speculative (I've just given it a slow 3 hour tumble).
Enjoy.

Re: 7.1 Christchurch Earthquake Simulation
For comparison with release 3 (cc_quake_R3.zip) which covers the period Sep 2010 - Jun 2011, here is an addon showing the earthquake activity in NZ in the previous year (Sep 2009 - Aug 2010) leading up to the 7.1 event. Download: cc_quake-mag3+sep09-aug10_V1.zip Note that this particular addon can b...

Re: 7.1 Christchurch Earthquake Simulation
Aftershocks are still occurring on a regular basis, reducing in frequency, but not so much in size, so the second release adds aftershocks from 01Oct - 15Oct. (the most recent significant one was a 4.6 mag. Oct 15 9.31 UTC (10:31 tonight local time). This release also has been re-designed to have fl...

Re: 7.1
I forgot to mention that this addon was developed using Celestia version 1.6.0 It should still work in 1,5 although I recommend using 1.6 if you can. The main event ( 7.1 on the richter scale): http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~philbatchelor/addons/img/06.jpg First aftershock (20 minutes later) is a 5.6:...

7.1 Christchurch Earthquake Simulation
An animation of the 7.1 quake which hit the Canterbury region of New Zealand on Sep 04th 2010 at 4:35am (local time), and the thousands of both major and minor aftershocks which have occurred in the following ~9 months. Here is some background info, if you are interested, about the 3 major events: 7...
