The Essential Add-on List
What are the essential add-ons? What are the add-ons Celestia users should use (almost) regardless of their system specs? My current short list: The Extended Stars Database : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/celestia.stars/ Selden's Catalogs : http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/catalogs.html I'll add m...

Improvement Suggestions for the next version
A complete reworking of the lighting engine. -- One, to allow multiple light sources so binary stars can be added. Two, to improve shadow rendering for eclipses. Look at a Jovian moon during a solar eclipse to see what I mean. A redo of the rendering engine. -- Load lo-res texture first. Then Med-re...

Re: Yet another prerelease: 1.3.0pre6
Is there a way I can download only the files that have been updated? I'm tired of constantly rechecking my texture directory and ssc files with each prerelease.

Lemme guess. This is also why binary stars aren't supported yet either?
Can we have barycenter support in a future release?

Re: New names for Jupiter's moons
you can download the ssc file for the new Jupiter's satellites there: http://bruckner.homelinux.net/files/jupiter_small_satellites.zip or from www.skullcave.com/celestia/jupiter-moons.ssc In the ssc file replace "S2001 J10" by "Chaldene" etc... a few of them have not been confirmed and therefore do...

GeForce 2 Go - WinXP
I noticed that many of the Globular Cluster-type galaxies (i.e. A358, A400, A262) seem to flicker when I move around or change the camera angle, regardless of resolution or sometimes even distance.

We still have a Y4K problem.
The moon still crashes into the Earth in the year 4000.
Just set the clock to any time on or after New Year's Day 4000 and watch. It's doesn't take long, you can even see it in real time.

Re: Urgent Requests
My reactions: First post- 1) Let's get observation mode bug-free and working first. Then maybe a simulation mode may be possible. 2) No. 3) Possible, but may be a resource hog. 4) If he knows (or has a good idea) how they'd be rendered in 3D, it may be a possiblity. However, binary stars aren't even...

Sol can also be selected by pressing 0...1-9 for the nine planets.... Same with any extrasolar system..0 is parent star...1-9 is the planets in the system... I have an idea that's a tangent to this one. Shift-# cycles through the satellites of the planet. (i.e. Shift-3 selects the Moon, Shift-4 sel...

Re: 1.2.5 prerelease 6
Possible major bug detected: How to recreate the moon bug.
1) Go to the year 4000 or later.
That's all. Once the clock strikes midnight on New Year's day in the year 4000 the Moon's orbit radically changes. Before the year 4000, the Moon's orbit "wobbles".

Here's another shot of the close moon problem: http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images/moon2.jpg Here is a different angle to highlight a possible problem with eclipse rendering. Note the eclipse shadow appearing on the back of the Earth too: http://membres.lycos.fr/ayareiko/images/moon1.jpg

3 - Why? It's not possible to have eclipses in any of the extrasolar systems. how is it not possible? i mean i understand that they wouldnt be acurate because we dont know the exact orbit patterns, but what about custom made solar systems? i know i would like it to work for mine. and one more thing...

1 - None of the minor moons would create an eclipse.
3 - Why? It's not possible to have eclipses in any of the extrasolar systems.
2, 4, 5, 6, & 7 - That'd be more work than it would probably be worth it. Stick with the KISS principle I say.

Re: Feature Requests for 1.2.5 Final
1. Binary Stars
2. Procession of the Earth's axis
3. A more detailed "Solar System Browser" with separate areas (tabs?) for the different kinds of objects (i.e. planets, asteriods, comets, etc.). The list is getting rather long and needs a little more organization.

Re: Latest Feature Requests (for beyond 1.2.4)
I would like to see Celestia distro broken down into more parts. The binary, source and graphics should be in separate archives. That way it would be easy to update from one version to another. Sure, the 10 meg archive isn't that big even with my pokey old modem, but the textures are a large amount...

Latest Feature Requests (for beyond 1.2.4)
1. Have Planets, Asteriods, Comets, etc. categorized in the Solor System browser. With the massive list of Comets and Asteroids, the SSB is getting a little crowded. 2. Binary stars (again) 3. Improved "drown-out" lighting effects. Better rendering of the sky when near the surface. 4. Ability to cho...
