Re: Requesting help Creating a lovely Transparent Sphere
One thing you might try is making a basic sphere in anim8tor and export it as a cmod. Then open the cmod up with wordpad and set the opacity for the materials to 0.5. Maybe that will make it transparent. I didn't see an export to cmod, so I exported to 3ds and then converted it to cmod. I was able ...

Re: Requesting help Creating a lovely Transparent Sphere
I'd also like to create a semi-transparent sphere / planet. I've created a semi-transparent green texture, but Celestia lights it up seeming to ignore the transparency. I've been able to apply it onto an comet asteroid and make it transparent. In fact I love the blueish overlay to Halley's comet, if...

Re: Target name doesn't always find the search term
If you want to jump directly from another star system to a solar system body, the only thing you have to do differently with the "Enter/Name/Enter" method is to 1 hit Enter 2 type the name of the star followed by a slash i.e. "Sol/" 3 start typing the name of the object 4 select...

Re: Target name doesn't always find the search term
I'm afraid I disagree. It's necessary to keep the SELECT and GOTO actions separate... for example sometimes we want to SELECT an object simply so that we may LOCK with it. It would be a bad mistake to automatically GOTO every object that is selected, as there are many other reasons to select an obj...

Target name doesn't always find the search term
Is the target name limited to the solar system or something? It seems to work great some times, but if you jump to a outside star, "Earth" or other common objects are no longer available in the search. Seems this should have access to all objects like the "Goto Object" box. It wo...

Re: Interactive visualization system
Thanks for the link, I just checked out much of the material over there and several sample projects. Not bad.. It looks like it is an abandoned project though.. not much after 2004. I'd like to work on something that is current technology and under some active development. I found Celestia much more...

Interactive visualization system
I've been searching the web for the last several days looking for a tool to interactively analyze data in 3d. Some 2d apps that fit this bill are http://www.cytoscape.org/, http://www.paterva.com/maltego/screenshots/, & http://prefuse.org/. I'm really impressed with what Celestia can do and I ha...
