Celestia URLs are not URL encoded
Just a quick note, when Celestia creates a URL (using the CTRL+C keystroke) the resulting URL is not properly URL encoded. For example, when observing a satellite named "OFEQ 7" the resulting URL is: cel://Follow/Sol:Earth:OFEQ 7/2009-01-29T17:53:26.53329?x=3wbP4QU&y=+IszDAE&z=7l5J...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
Chuft, I'll make the name changes for the FENGYUN 1C DEB entries for the next release. I'll let you know when I have updated the sample SSC file on the website. As for removing the [+] and related symbols, can you tell me why you want them removed? Is it purely for creating the cel: URL? I have the ...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
Thanks for the updates, Chuft and Lord Ferret. The TETHERED thing is interesting. I do remember hearing a bit about it in the late 70's but I'd forgotten all about it since then. I have improved the code so that it now uses the NORAD ID to ensure the uniqueness of each satellite record. I have also ...

Re: Methane on Mars
Bob,
Methane can be a by-product of volcanic activity. However, one NASA researcher mentioned that they did not see the usual chemical markers normally associated with volcanic methane. I have no idea what those markers would be though.

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
Looks like the most reliable way to check for duplicates is the NORAD ID. I'll make that change for the next release. You can download the updated file: http://jeffdavies.org/starbridge/norad_satellites.ssc. It no longer duplicates the CO-55 satellite (or any other, in theory), but it does include a...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
Thanks Chuft, I am removing some duplictaes already. These are slipping through because the names "CO-55" and "CO-55 [+]" are not exactly the same. I take it that I should ignore the [+] and [-] text decorations in the names. Can you tell me what they mean though? I also see [P],...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
CC, Wow, give me some time to get my head wrapped around all of that. It looks very interesting. Duds, As for creating custom groups I was thinking of defining them in an XML file so we get an easy way to manage hierarchies of groups. Ultimately I could provide a GUI editor for those grouping files,...

Wow! Thanks for that link Selden. My mind is in overdrive thinking of all the evil uses I can put that to! Very cool stuff.

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
It would be handy to define groups, and be able to make groups with own interests. Make custom classifications with custom groups and structure. And then be able to save the current classification in a list that can hold many of them This way people can make their own classification and groups. Wit...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
That is very cool Chuft! And you have read my mind. I'm about to post the new version of Starbridge (0.6.0) in the main thread. One of the things I added is a way to map models to specific satellites, or groups of satellites. In the new config/ directory of StarBridge is a file called starbridge.sat...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
I also noticed that the satellite names had additonal text in parenthesis. These are additional names that needed to be formatted according to the Celestia object naming rules (i.e. seperated by a colon). I have updated the http://jeffdavies.org/starbridge/noradsatellites.ssc file to use dashes inst...

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
CC, The "\" escape character is already supported by Celestia for key characters and is a standard mechanism in a wide variety of languages for denoting special characters. For example using a \u (an escaped u) indicates that a Unicode character is going to follow (handy for alphabets that...

Re: Win32 Executable from SVN
I have some space to host these executables if you need it. Its a Yahoo site, so I have GB of space to spare. Not sure how we would work out the Xfers though. I don't know if I can create an FTP account for you to upload files or not. If you're interested, I'll check it out.

Re: New satellite information in ssc form
Chuft-Captain, Thanks a ton for your detailed description of the problem. In my opinion, we need both a short-term fix and a long-term fix for this. The short-term fix is for me to modify StarBridge and substitute the offending slash character with some other character. At the moment, I'm thinking a...

Re: New UI Backend: AGAR?
Just an FYI, Celestia uses LUA for its scripting engine also. See http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Celestia/Scripting for more details. Since you mentioned GTK I take it that you are running on LINUX or some UNIX variant? The graphics are pretty robust on my Win XP laptop. Is GTK known to be a bit slow ...
