Re: Attempted Very Precise 2004 MN4 Apophis orbital elements

Where exactly do I get Celestia v1.6? Everyone talks about using it and the SVN, but unlike most open source program's websites download links are no where to be found. What's more is you cant use a search on the forums for 1.6 because it doesn't like to search by numbers. Also if I use the sample ...

Re: Attempted Very Precise 2004 MN4 Apophis orbital elements

Celestia does not provide an automatic way to smoothly move from one disjoint trajectory to another. The Addon creator has to provide the intermediate positions. Celestia's default planetary ephemeris isn't accurate enough for what you're trying to do. (It's a tradeoff, since more accuracy requires...

Re: Attempted Very Precise 2004 MN4 Apophis orbital elements

I forgot to add. For some reason for their calculations they used Gaussian Years in the JPL database for this object. You can check this by seeing the values for Period given by doing 'a^1.5' and dividing the period by it to give the year length in days and it turns out to match Gaussian Day closer ...

Re: Eclipse Bug (macosx version 1.5.1(0)

I am also on Mac OS X using 1.5.1 and just tested this. I confirm the crash. I just typed in Sol into the top object box and did search from 2008 to 2009 and it hit find and it promptly crashed.

Attempted Very Precise 2004 MN4 Apophis orbital elements

Hello, I'm new here, this is my first attempt at doing anything. You have to start somewhere. The SSC file is pasted below. I basically pulled the data from JPL's browser and the rotation period from http://earn.dlr.de/nea/099942.htm. My first question is do people usually source their data, is it l...

Re: Science realistic solar system bodies

Let me rephrase myself. I am sorry if I am sounding demanding or impatient. I completely realize how much effort you guys and the celestia team have put into the program and the texture data. Already what is available is spectacular and frankly amazing. I am a perfectionist at heart so I am always t...

Re: Science realistic solar system bodies

I'm not requesting anyone to make any. I'm just requesting if there is some place that has a good list of them. Or rather a good list of the highest available. Is celestia motherlode assured to have everything? or are there some things that just aren't posted there? I might try making some myself, b...

Science realistic solar system bodies

Is there any kind of package around that has the highest resolution available of any maps of solar system bodies preferably with normal or bump maps. John Van Vliet has some very good packages but my biggest gripe is the time it takes to get them all. As he separates them out into such small pieces....

Re: John van Vliet's Venus VT

I'm going to recant what I said. I'm not quite sure what I was meaning. I think what I was meaning is that something looks... disturbing? when you look at certain areas when they are just lit from edge on. They look odd and unatural so I was thinking they were misplaced by a bit and the low parts we...

John van Vliet's Venus VT

I'm not sure if this is the right place to mention this, but he gives no contact info so I'm not sure where else to put it, and this may just be me. When I use his VT for Venus combined with his Normal Map, the texture looks VERY odd. It looks blurred as if the textures are misaligned. Sure enough o...
