Re: Selecting new textures on-the-fly
Well, this isn't bad, but it would be nice to have Celestia auto-select them from the appropriate folder so they'd be in the right-click menu without writing lines of code. I'm thinking from a practical standpoint: in the scenario I described above, I have downloaded many textures, but will likely o...

Selecting new textures on-the-fly
Hi, I'm relatively new to Celestia (in Linux, anyway). As such, I've downloaded a large collection of textures which I'd like to 'try' on my computer. I'm not sure which ones would look good/work relatively quickly with my hardware, so I must resort to moving a texture to the spot where Celestia is ...

Re: Space-Graphics New Mars Texture!
Praesepe,
Any chance of you uploading your textures to your page? I'd like to try them out on my machine, as I have no clue how to make my own.
Thanks,
AC

Re: Questions on Textures and Finding Objects
Oh, and is there any way to label added objects (like the open clusters or planetary nebulae I've added)?

Re: Questions on Textures and Finding Objects
Ok, I got it. I had to move the messier_open.dsc file to the extras folder, not the data folder. Whoops! A few more questions:  1. How do I get that red square that comes up when I select an object to come back? It disappeared on me! 2. I have the 2k star database, but most of the open cluster...

Re: Questions on Textures and Finding Objects
No, I'm speaking specifically of Selden's open cluster file, messier_open.dsc. I found it on his site, and after importing it (so I hope) I can't figure out how to turn on the labels or how to find the objects (by typing them in). The globular clusters I have came with galaxies and are now in my gal...

Windows tooltips messy while running Celestia
Just a small nuisance. While running Celestia, my Windows tooltips do one or two things. Either they'll show up with a black portion at the end or they'll show up with the name of the last thing I looked at, so they'll always be off. I think it's just messiness with my video card, but I don't know.

Re: Questions on Textures and Finding Objects
Selden, First of all, thanks for such a great site. I had perused it, and it's where I got most of the plugins I have. I should have been a bit more clear. I was able to get the galaxy file working, just not the open cluster one. I do have the additional stars put in, and I did type m46 without the ...

Questions on Textures and Finding Objects
Hi, new here; bear with me. I have perused the manual and the links page for some nifty textures. I've gotten Earth to look quite nice, with a bump map and everything. My question is: considering I don't have the greatest video card (GeForce 2 MX... 64?), which file types are the best for speed v. q...
