Re: Map Projections
Hi Tiburcio, I do not know whether the following is of any use to you, but Matlab has an extensive set of mapping commands that include pixel-based as well as vector-based maps. You can find more info at their website here: http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/map/index.html?/access...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
Dear Sen, I was away; sorry for not replying earlier. One part of what I did is texturing, and many people here do that a lot better than I can. I can only give you an outline: get images of Earth from NASA's Blue Marble, and cut and paste sections onto your own map. With graphic software such as Ph...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
It took a while (spent on something else) but I did produce some seasonal maps in the end. I used the Matlab routines I wrote about earlier to produce snow maps for the Northern as well as the Southern winter, and imported them into Photoshop as layers. Then I had to think about sea ice. Both the po...

Re: Crater brushes for Photoshop
Perhaps what you need is a height map for the moon. I typed in 'digital elevation map' & moon, and did not find the exact simple answer you might want. However: here is a link: http://www.christian-woehler.de/lunar_dem.html There was also the 'clementine mission' which comes near: http://simkin....

... you can take into consideration the things I have done with my Terraformed Mars texture. Estimate the amount of Hadley cells per hemisphere, and atmospheric density, the trade wind routes and how high altitude landmasses effect the way the wind and weather will move around the forms and the end...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
Have you considered including seasonal changes in snow cover and ground (vegetation) color? Oh yes! Adapting the model to show different seasons is easy. It is a simple question of making the snow border and/or the width of the snow transition zone creep towards the equator. I could also put in a b...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
This is just to return to the main topic... I thought I should try my snow routine on Earth rather than on Furaha, as I can could then compare the results with what they ought to look like. Compare the result with one of the images here (april is close): http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/Blu...

Re: Don. Edwards Texture Tutorials
Using Adobe Photoshop, I will show how it can be transformed from a very inaccurate portrayal of Earth into this much more realistic one. Don. Edwards Many thanks for starting this tutorial, particularly seeing as how you are pressed for time (I know the feeling well...). Can I ask a question about...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
Nice place, i would live there. Don. Edwards Thanks! Not just for thinking Furaha is a nice place, but for the praise as well, and mostly for the effort you have put into making it better. It is much appreciated. Here are some specific remarks concerfning the points you addressed: -About image size...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
As large as your computer can handle without becoming too slow. Celestia cuts large planetary surface textures into pieces which are small enough to fit into the texture buffer of your computer's graphics card. Sorry to have caused a misunderstanding. I know about the 2K 4K 8K etc. system, and how ...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
This isn't about adding snow, but I finally finished stage 1 of a texture for Furaha, and so here is is (half size). As this is my first texture, I welcome comments and suggestions. :) Note the large desert areas; Furaha is larger than Earth, and with continents this size, their interiors might turn...

Re: Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
If this is what you are looking for let me know and I will get started on it. Don. Edwards Yes please! My technique is a bit elaborate, but now that I've written the program (about 2 hours work) it does not take too long, but I am most interested in hearing about other techniques. My 'solution' req...

Adding snow to Furahan texturemap
Celestia inspired me to start working on textures for my project on the planet Furaha (see http://www.planetfuraha.org ). I started in what me be an odd way for most people here, as I had little experience with graphics programmes but was fairly familiar with Matlab and its cartography toolbox. So, ...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
Welcome to Celestia, coen ! Perhaps you could try using a good Earth texture as a basis for colouration in the various parts of the world, but it might be difficult fitting suitable parts together. . Thank you, Eburacum. I have started working on a texture map in Photoshop, based on what I see here...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
Enio, I really like your texture, mostly because I am thinking about ways to create a similar believable texture for my own fictional planet, to be found at http://www.planetfuraha.org. I am having difficulties on two fronts: the first is that I have never used computer paint programs much (perhaps ...
