Re: Request: "Stellar Cartography" mode
Isn't this a little bit like the Celestial Grid -option?

Tracking Mode
3. Secondary centering mode - follow 1 planet, moon, etc. but keep the screen centered on another - i.e. watch earth spin around sun, or watch Io orbit around Jupiter from Io. If I understand you correctly, you can do this by following one object first and then selecting another and tracking it.

Re: animated textures
You can get realtime cloud maps over the net, don't remember the address (try google), but it was pretty cool. Something like this if you'd using Real Time -mode maybe?

Re: fullscreen
With the Windows-version you press Alt-Enter for fullscreen or toggle it trough the menu. Don't know about other platforms though.
Ambient settings should be saved I think, but config options, no idea.

Re: Ephemeris Accuracy
You're right, it's too far, but the closest moment will be in 29th of September, 2004, but this won't work in Celestia eihter.

I don't think that's possible at all.

Re: latitude and longitude
It'd be nice if you'd be able to specify your position on a planetary body using lat/long.

Re: Question/Challenge/Idea
ALSO! Can/does Celestia sync with the current time and date, so that you can see planets/stars/etc. as they are "right now" in relation to each other?
Yes, it is after all a solar system simulator.

Re: I would just like to say.......
Try turning off vertex and pixel shaders for the slowness. At least for me it works.

Re: astéroids
If you have them on a circular orbit and just randomly scatter them around, then that would already be nice looking (I think). Of course they don't have to be seen from too far and sowise they wouldn't slow us too much down.

This has been done in the Elite-series (the second and third one). After that in many others too.

Zooming on the clouds
Maybe you already know this, but when looking at the Earth and zooming in alot the coulds become really strange. They become stripes and it looks strange. I'll post a picture if you need one.

Re: Venus Surface
I think them gas giants have a very deep (thousands of km) liquid (hydrogen etc.) surface, but the core itself is solid. The pressure near the solid core is millions of atm.
Again correct me if I'm wrong. I read something like this in a sci-magazine.

Re: Is anyone working on a flight simulator mod?
For true gravity I'd suggest an N-body solver.
But now the idea that will probably remain as only a dream: a realistic OpenGL-accelerated Elite-type game with massive multiplayer. :)
Maybe this isn't what your thinking of...

Re: earth bumps
It's still optional, so why not? The ultimate solution would of course be a true mesh and a shadowmap.
