Re: Installation on a Linux system

Is it possible to have Celestia installed the normal way to /usr/local etc. and tell it to look for additional files in a different place like /home/MyHome/Celestia/extras. Of course! Just edit the celestia.cfg configuration file. You can put just as many directories for 'extras' as you want. I've ...

Re: Dumb (Linux) compile question...

I have reviewed the source of the conftest used for that test, and can't think of anything that can go wrong enough to give you a segfault. I suggest you to capture the source by inserting a copy command before the 22577 line, in the configure script: cp conftest.c /tmp/conftest_int.c and try to deb...

Re: Dumb (Linux) compile question...

Could you supply the relevant portion of config.log? Something like this: configure:25791: checking size of int configure:26110: gcc -o conftest -ansi -W -Wall -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Wmissing-prototypes -Wwrite-strings -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -DNDEBUG -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -O2 -Wall ...

Re: translate to basque

Well, I was the first to offer to translate to Basque, but unfortunately I'm not fluent in that language. So, I asked the help of some friends, one of them actually teacher of euskera, but they choked a little when they saw the astronomical and technical jargon, and I'm not going to submit a partial...

Re: [linux]What devel-package should I have ?

Well, I'd suggest to look at the result of the command ldd `which celestia` to discover all the dynamic libraries involved, and from there look at in which packages are those libraries...

Although it wouldn't reach the KDE crash screen if some library is missing...

Hum, sorry for bringing back this 'old' topic, but I was 'absent' for several weeks - too busy... For the following, you should be logged in as "root". CAUTION: there is no kidding around when logged in as root. Any error could seriously damage your system. Perform the described steps only if you ha...

Hah, that was fun!! Reinstalling the Microsoft drivers without asking the user and knowing perfectly that almost nobody with a little sense uses them...
Really, Microsoft always think the user is an idiot.

This seems to me as a problem with the ATI driver (being the latest one doesn't always mean the best one). Did you test with another OpenGL program like, for example, glxgears, tuxracer or armagetron?

Re: Rendering problem-Celestia 1.3.1 Linux

Well, sorry for the delay. I've been busy this week with taxes  Finally, I was able to review the Intel driver installation script. It seems to install it's OpenGL library in /usr/X11R6/lib, and your system is pointing to the library in /usr/X11R6/lib/tls/ (perhaps the Mesa one, I don't have a ...

The vision I 'd like to see in my Celestia is given by this photo: http://nstars.arc.nasa.gov/searches/starinfo2_image.cfm?nsname1=0318m6230 Ah, no, no. I suppose you are asking for lens flares. Dear toadatrix: That text is what is called a CELL URL . It's a way to save and post a particular position, time and settings. That's the way you can build a list of preferred sightings, or bookmarks. The problem of CELL URLs (i.e., bookmarks) not working in SuSE Linux has been just answered by Chri...

Re: Rendering problem-Celestia 1.3.1 Linux

For being sure you are using the correct library, you should look (or submit us) the output of the command glxinfo . Well, selden, the matter is not that the Mesa library is 'limited' in features, but that they are software rendering , i.e., slow as the badguy's horse (as we say here  ). I'm s...

Re: Linux - Building from CVS, am I being stupid?

You must take into account that there are a lot of different compiler&tool versions around there, and people don't always install all the development environment needed for Celestia. For compiling from source, both in Windows &Linux, you must check first that you meet the requirements, mostly that y...
