Re: First add-on located in another galaxy ( in development )

Welcome, everyone!! Just want to give you a briefing about the Andromeda Galaxy. I have been working on add ons for this Galaxy myself. Andromeda is a very young, hot galaxy. The nucleus is surrounded by B and O spectrum stars very close to each other. There are also large star fields towards the ou...

Re: Add system in other Galaxy

Chris, You are right on this. It would not be compatible with current star catalogs.

We might have to wait until newer catalogs come out where they are actually mapping the galaxy, rather than the stars that are close to earth.

Peace, Larre.. :(

Re: Add system in other Galaxy

Thank you Chris, for the clarification. Now to figure out how to center the star octree to the center of the Milky Way galaxy, rather than to center it with the Sun. I have tried it with the configuration file Celestia.cfg, as well as the stars.txt, and starnames.dat files, and none of those work. I...

Re: Add system in other Galaxy

Well, I finally got Celestia compiled with a few minor errors. Now, I will be testing some theories that I have when it comes to the root of the Star Octree. My test is to create multiple Star Octrees, which represent the multiple galaxies in the local group. My standard size for these Octrees will ...

Re: .gif files and such...

I did note that there is an animated form of the .png format now. They tend to call it apng. Firefox 3.0 supports apng now, and has an animation editor. This is a very promising future for the .png format of image files. If you can, or if I finally come up with the code, let's add animated .png sup...

Re: Star textures in celestia.cfg

Here's a patch file that you can test: http://www.celestiaproject.net/~claurel/celestia/files/patches/startex/ It includes a modified celestia.cfg file. Note that if you are using a custom celestia.cfg, you need to add new the new StarTextures block from celestia.cfg if you want to avoid getting co...

Re: Latest CVS - Some Questions

This is strange. You are generating errors for gtk and kde files and your compiling with Visual C++ 2005 for Windows? cartrite Yep.. I am also running on Vista. I wonder if the OS has something to do with this.. Hopefully I can get this resolved.. Also, about Imagecapture.cpp, Do I really need that...

Serious problems with jpeglib.h

I have tried to compile celestia with VC++ 2005, and I finally got the linker errors resolved. Now, I have a problem with the Jpeg header file, Jpeglib.h. I don't know if I really need this file or not, Maybee delete it and just keep my images as PNG images. Here is the errors that this file has gen...

Re: Latest CVS - Some Questions

I have tried to compile all the Celestia code from Visual C++ 2005. This has generated over 170 errors, mainly all the include files that the compiler says does not exist. Here is a list of them. (very long list at that) Compiling... startextdump.cpp .\Tools\stardb\startextdump.cpp(16) : fat...

Re: Add system in other Galaxy

In the Celestia Source Code, the most likely culprit in limiting Celestia's ability to sender stars beyond 16000 ly, is the "Octree.cpp" file. This is the settings file for the Octree, to which a star database is rendered. I do not know much about this file, since I am just a beginner at understandi...

Re: No stars beyond 16308.35 ly's from Sol

I am an not really an expert at the Celestia source code, but I did download it from the Source Forge repository. This Octree structure that I've been looking at had a lot of nodes, but I did not see the root node, but that's because, I've just been skimming over the code. I really need to take a cl...

Re: Celestia Development Roadmap

Hello, Everyone!! I am new at this Celestia thing, and I have learned so much by reading these forums!! I do have a few suggestions for the future of Celestia: Please make it so that Celestia can draw stars beyond 16000 Light Years, and if you can, make it possible for 3D Terrain for Planets, if tha...
