Re: Vista updates question

Hey there Plutonian... I also am stuck with Vista Home Premium on my current PC, and the latest Windows updates - security and others - are simply atrocious. My PC is now adding items to my start menu whether I want them there or not, and I'm very seriously thinking that it's time for a whole new PC...

Re: New Saturn Rings Texture

Thank you Viking, the subject is very interesting. :) Links are good. Fridger, ..., why do you resort to snide remarks like ". . . If you had taken a little more reading time, . . ."? GW Beware of trolls, there were long as there had been more and t00fri is a fan... :( :( :( If I may here...

Re: Pluto's two new moons Kerberos and Styx added to Motherl

Thanks Frank...

Much appreciated by the Brain-Dead. ;-)

Our solar system seems to have many more moons (and surprises) than was ever anticipated.

Take care, Brain-Dead Bob

Re: No more file updates from me

As reflected above and by the others here, Grant, I also am very sad to see your efforts die with diminishing returns. I too will miss your scientific updates. Such enhancements to my favorite program can now be found only - and apparently - at Celestial Matters. Sad to see this stoppage of your con...

Re: The Sky at Night Appreciation Thread

Guillermo, for me your comet shots were certainly "photos of the month"! Great that The Sky at Night people agree... Hamburg is still under a solid cover of snow (despite the official beginning of spring today!), and the sky is untransparently gray ... No chance for viewing Mr. PanSTARRS ...

For Celestians that enjoy observing the universe besides simulating it: Virtual Moon Atlas has a major update as of today, with version 6. Virtual Moon Atlas is one of the finest pieces of software for the amateur astronomer, a comprehensive observing tool for Moon watchers. One of its authors is P...

Re: Is a black hole a perfect sphere?

Just my curiosity here...

Aside from the jets expelling radiation, how could a black hole NOT
be a sphere?

This extreme gravity pulls in all directions at once, no? What could
possibly cause the shape to be other than spherical?

Again, just curiosity from the Brain-Dead.

Re: Designing our own DSC globular clusters?

For lay persons I am afraid this might be far too involved... No Kidding... :D Nonetheless, your expert insight into these matters is very much appreciated by some of the Brain-Dead. I always want my Celestia (and eventually Celestia.Sci) to incorporate the essentials of realism, and your untiring ...

Re: What is your opinion on the use of Celestia for Sci-Fi?

As far as this old Brain-Dead geezer is concerned, both the scientific *and* the Sci-Fi add-ons and discussions should remain on our forum here... Methinks that the problem with all of the Star Trek and other fictional topics remains within the fact that the Sci_fi topics seem to encroach upon topic...

Thanks for the link...

Enjoyed the video very much, and was amazed at some of the looks at Saturn and it's minor moons.
Detail was very entertaining.

Thanks again, Brain-Dead Bob

hi, Since few weeks, I've remarked thath motherlode is longer as usual to update :( Why ? :| Patience is easy to tell us...but for the life of the site, the delays must be shorter. Re: README file

Methinks that John is just trying to make a point here... Anyone who has used Windows for anytime at all knows how to circumvent this particular defect in this operating system. That said, however, we do get the occasional user on the Motherlode who does not know how to read a file when it has not b...

Mickey... If you wish to use the most accurate-to-date stars database, then please listen to Fridger's advice. If you want more (albeit less accurate) destinations, then you can't beat the 2.5 million stars database mentioned by John. This is simply a matter of taste, but I'm afraid that you are tal...

Hey...
Thanks very much for all of these links John.
Should be fun just going through each program to see if they
can be used by a "point and click" kind of guy. Hee, hee...

Also, thanks for the Gliese581 add-on from another topic. Looks very nice here.
