Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

I've completed the first tutorial I mentioned in a previous post. Any feedback is welcome .... clarity, missing info, needed definitions, etc. http://gmat.wiki.sourceforge.net/Creating+and+Propagating+a+Spacecraft I'm going to use the Apollo mission as the basis for a Lunar Transfer tutorial soon......

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Steve, For those who aren't on the best of terms with celestial mechanics ;) , programs like this can be intimidating. What's the chance of the documentation including a "worked example"? e.g. takeoff from Earth through landing on Mars? It's been awhile since I posted to this thread. I thought I wo...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

I tracked down enough information to get a pretty good first cut of the outbound Apollo 11 trajectory modeled in GMAT. The picture below illustrates the free return trajectory. I haven't modeled the maneuvers at the moon, so you see the trajectory return to Earth naturally. This was a design feature...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Steve, I think you miss it, I was also wondering about the benefit of this collaboration for Celestia and I was asking you on the previous page about the possibility or not (IF this collaboration goes on, of course) to have a bit of promotion (reason of choosing Celestia, screenshots, link) for Cel...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Hey Steve, we have currently a work in progress on Apollo 11 (new models), and the plan is to reconstruct the whole mission from deployment of the LEM from the S-IVB to mooning + come back and splashdown... I'm wondering if GMAT could not be used for the trajectories and orbits... Perhaps it would ...

Steve, For those who aren't on the best of terms with celestial mechanics ;) , programs like this can be intimidating. What's the chance of the documentation including a "worked example"? e.g. takeoff from Earth through landing on Mars? I'd be glad to put something together like this. In fact, I ho...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Hi ElChristou, I posted a GMAT announcement to the Celestia web site because I thought there may be interest. I think it would be great if there is some collaboration between the two projects. But, we'll have to see if there's enough interest. Currently, the GMAT and Celestia systems do not interfac...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Hi DT, This response is regarding your message above, where you mention needing libmx.dll and libut.dll for one of the executables to run. The GMATBeta executable requires that MATLAB is installed on your machine to run. The libmx.dll and libut.dl libraries are not open source, they are owned by Mat...

Re: NASA OS Software: The General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT)

Hello Bye Sorry for my slow response. While I work for NASA, I can't speak for the Agency as a whole. However, the GMAT project has a Mission Statement document that I believe answers your question from a GMAT project perspective and it is available at http://gmat.gsfc.nasa.gov/downloads/documentati...

Driving Celestia from an external propagator

I'm new to the Celestia forum, and I am trying to find out if anyone has ever used an external orbit propagator to generate spacecraft orbit ephemeris for Celestia to display. I'm interested in using Celestia as a display option for a software system I've been working on for about five years now. So...
