Re: The future of our Sun

I'm having a tough time getting this to work. I have 1.5.0 pre4, I tried downloading the CVS version but got 404 errors, and for whatever reason, the script won't fully function. It goes through its speil, but it won't "animate" per se, showing the various stages depicted in the screenshot material....

Re: Sun's Life

Salut! You should dig a bit the forum, Vincent has done a script recently showing the evolution of the Sun. It don't turn into BH but at least you will find a part of what you'd like to see... Pardon me, but what search terms would one use? Using "solar evolution" and "sun's life" among other searc...

Re: Saturn's Rings

Grant Hutchison spent a lot of time in 2004 creating 4K Saturn ring texture from the best available data using density profies measured in 1989. It's available at http://www.lepp.cornell.edu/~seb/celestia/hutchison/saturn-rings.html I just tried using those textures on 1.5.0pre3 and got nowhere. Th...

Re: Advanced lighting?

I've recently experimented with bringing HDR to Celestia. My version does NOT use shaders. It runs even in the Basic render path. However dynamic range is only 2x. Here's what a star looks like before: http://nho.ohn.free.fr/celestia/dirkpitt/pic/sun-default.jpg After: http://nho.ohn.free.fr/celest...

Re: Anyone know where a good Uranus texture can be had?

Where would I find the pulsar addons?

I've tried searching and came up empty.

Addon probems - textures not displaying.

Hello, I've recently downloaded a set of addons for Celestia that I'm having a bit of difficulty dealing with. They are the Christmas Tree Cluster (and the associated Cone Nebula), the Pelican Nebula, The Carina Nebula, and a few others. On some of the addons (I've unzipped them and placed the files...

Re: Problem with add-on

So no addon there can be trusted. Use them as Celestia "toys" only. I wouldn't exactly say that no addon - whatsoever - at the Motherlode can be trusted. Some of them, especially Don Edwards' texture sets, are unbelievably astounding in terms of accuracy. I'd even say that some nebulae are unbeliev...

Those are possibly some of the best Celestia images I've seen, by far.

Amazing work!

Re: Amazing Aurora Video from the South Pole

I had a chance to witness a spectactular aurora event in July of '04. It was during a period of severe sunspot activity and series of coronal-mass-ejections were sent out that hit Earth the next day. I remember driving home one night and seeing this huge whitish-like stream of light that resembled a...

Re: The Feature Requests Collecting Thread

Oh, I certainly plan on learning how to do add-ons for Celestia. I certainly didn't mean to make that post as a definitive "feature request" set solely for the next release. I actually meant it more so as a feature request for future versions later down the road. Sorry if it came off as being that w...

Re: The Feature Requests Collecting Thread

Well, I'm probably going to break a rule or two in re: this thread, but there's a few requests I'd like to make in terms of Celestia's display capabilities. First and foremost, I'd like to see the capability to accurately render nebulae based on photographs in a 3D setting, and not have to use somet...

I even tried Notepad and WordPad to split it up, and it wouldn't work. Wordpad froze totally, and Notepad gives me a warning saying that the file is too large to open.

Re: Lightning!

Just so you guys know, those aren't flares in that animation. Those "loop" like things are actually called "filaments" (or conversely, they become known as a "prominence" when viewed against the blackness of space). A flare and a filament are two different things entirely. Filaments are formed in ma...

Asteroid request: Version 1.4.1

Hello, This is my first post, and I hope I've placed it in the right forum. I was downloading some add-on files for Celestia today and decided I'd enrich the emptiness inbetween Mars and Jupiter with the asteroid field available from the Motherlode. After downloading it, I followed the unzip and ins...
