Re: Celestia on large HD monitor absolutly Amazing!!
I attached a "now" image of earth Quick image of earth.jpg but wouldn't you need my monitor to see what I'm seeing ? Your just going to have to take my word for it :) I will say this, while I haven't had it long, I highly recommend this monitor, it has great contrast and there doesn't seem...

Celestia on large HD monitor absolutly Amazing!!
Moments ago I just displayed Celestia on my new 23.6" HD monitor. What I'm looking at is absolutely breathtaking!
Anyway...I just had to tell someone.
Thanks developers

Re: The earth isn't at 6h 00m 00s during the winter solstice
OK I got it, thanks a one thousand million. I realize that they froze the celestial grid in time for measurement reasons but there is something unholy about it not pointing in the direction of the earths spin. I’m going to go over to the Development forum and make a pitch for a second “real time” ce...

The earth isn't at 6h 00m 00s during the winter solstice?
I’ve been trying to "observe" the winter solstice from the viewpoint of the sun but even when I use the script below to position myself perfectly something still seems to be wrong. { # Strictly speaking, this script assumes the Inclination of the sun has been set to zero in the following f...

Re: Help in File Start.cel Out of date.
Ok, sorry John, I was reasoning from the premise it was dead. I just clicked the very link that I posted and it was alive. Because it is a redirected link, my Google search of the http://www.h-schmidt.net site didn't turn up anything and so I was certain of its deadness. Sorry again John and thanks ...

Help in File Start.cel Out of date.
At the end of the start.cel file that comes with the download, the link
# * Harald's Celestia page: (http://www.h-schmidt.net/celestia/) *
is dead.
On his webpage http://www.h-schmidt.net he does not link to it. I searched his website and there is nothing about celestia.

Sirius and Procyon are not among the labeled stars.
Just in case this hasn't been pointed out yet.... Sirius and Procyon are not among the labeled stars. The problem is that in the Celestia.cfg file they are referred to as "Sirius" and "Procyon" and not "Sirius A" and "Procyon A". Something similar seems to be true for Rigel Kentaurus. Adding "Rigel ...

Re: Accuracy of the relative positions of the Virgo galaxies.
All points well taken. Might I add that given that you... use about ~10 different methods of determining galaxy distances There is the quick and dirty option of displaying the distance for each star or galaxy once for each time it?€™s listed in a different catalog, the result would be a kind of prob...

Re: Accuracy of the relative positions of the Virgo galaxies.
Thanks, I read it all twice but?€¦. While all that information is important and should help put Celestia on a firm scientific basis in the minds of astronomers You say All the inherent uncertainties of my database can therefore be found in the cited papers! and I respect that, but I'm not a hardcore...

Re: FAQ Concerning Q29 "Celestia uses 100% of the CPU
Sorry, I was referring to Windows' standard icon for minimizing a program's window. Great ! It worked ! :D Thats going to be a time saver. Thanks Assuming this isn't specific to my PC... I would have to class that as a bit of a bug.(Or maybe its a unavoidable product of the Window's operating syste...

I'm using v1.4.1 I'm not going to worry about it and just see what happens with v1.5. If it still happens I'll let you guys know. ( On the other hand if you thinks its important to understand.. ask away. I've go some computer background so your instructions can be semi technical.) (Although I'm not ...

Accuracy of the relative positions of the Virgo galaxies.
I set up my demo.cel script to fly through the heart of the Virgo Cluster on its way to planet Earth. I was wondering how much stock I should be putting into what I find when it comes to the positions of the different galaxies in the cluster relative to each other. Most websites just list the distan...

FAQ Concerning Q29 "Celestia uses 100% of the CPU
Concerning the FAQ Q29: Why does Celestia always use 100% of the CPU? How can I make it use less? A helpful tip to add might be to point out that when you go to Bookmarks and then to Organize Bookmarks, the program goes into freeze mode. Otherwise it continues to use the CPU heavily even though it i...

Here is long winded but good review from www.freewarefiles.com I copied and pasted it because the link will probably die soon. http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_16_168_17622.html As a teacher of Astronomy and Earth Science in a high school, Celestia has become the most important tool I can use. Re: The distance of M90 is off by 15Mpc a factor of 15
Fridger, I wish I could say something intelligent about extragalactic distance indicators but at this point I?€™m just trying to get my head around what exists out there. Lacking a strong left hemisphere I focus on trying to develop an emotional sense of things, which Celestia is perfect for by the ...

The distance of M90 is off by 15Mpc a factor of 15
The galaxy M90 is not displayed as being in the Virgo Cluster but is in the local group. Here is a quote from Wiki which is in agreement with other sources. Messier 90 may be the ultimate silly example that can be used to demonstrate how NED fails to calculate distances accurately. This is an object...
