In the SHadow of the Moon

Hi Folk,

For the UK people and those with Satellite TV (I think), the documentary "In the Shadow of the Moon" giving the story of the Lunar Landings from the astronauts themselves, is being broadcast on Channel 4 at 8pm Sat 31st May.

You may now resume your Celestia programming.

Altair surface imaged

this is rather interesting, not only in the information, but the method in which the data was collected. Seems Altair is a fast spinner! * Secrets of Sun-like star probed * The surface of one of the brightest stars in the night sky is imaged by scientists. Full story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/-/1...

Re: customer service accents?

It runs in my mind a few years ago, a survey showed that on telesales, the Scottish accent is the clearest accent around. I don't mean the Trainspotting/Rab C Nesbit accent, but cultured Invernesshire. Just thought to put my t'pence in!

Just wondering if there is such a thing as a converter which converts CEL scripts into CELX?

Re: Big meteor flashing by

Congratulations you have just seen a fire ball! i've only seen one which was in Canada 2001 for the Perseids'. The one I saw left a purpleish streak and a trail for a couple of minutes. Thinking about it, the greenish trail you saw could be caused by Nitrogen atoms being excited (ionised) by the eng...

Re: Could an earth-sized planet have 2 moons?

I'm assuming you mean a moon of similar mass to our Moon. Otherwise you could argue that the Earth already has thousands of moons, albeit artificial!

Re: Question about precession...

It would be nice for Celestia to show precession, however, if you want to see the stars back in time, then try using Stellarium (another free planetarium software package).

Both these packages do different things, but compliment each other.

Light Pollution

Hi guys, i don't normally sign petitions, but this is one which may help we astronomers. It may lead to a reduction of every atronomers' gripes: light pollution. Help us reclaim the night sky as it should be seen. For details follow the link:

Algol and other binaries

I may being very stupid - but does celestia have binary systems programmed into it, in particular Algol? I don't see the second star when I go to Algol, even when I'm more than the separtation of the two stars. What am I doing wrong?!

Celestia in inflatable domes

i can confirm Celestia can and is used in inflatable planetaria. The MirriorDome system uses Celestia and Stellarium on a Mac and a spherical mirror. We at Thinktank Planetarium, Techniquest and Inspire, Norwich are in the process of purchasing domes. I am writing all the astronomical scripts and sh...

Celestia in Planetarium

Andrew Just spotted your post with images. rather impressive. Could you let us know what system you use? is it Celestia and Stellarium? We at Thinktank Planetarium will be getting an inflatable planetarium and would be interested in finding out more. Such as any hint/tips and how well it works using...

When he closed it down he could not load up Outlook. Has anyone had similar problems or throw any light on this? His sytem details are belo...
