AMS about to launch

Came across this interesting story...

http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/technology/9268585/scientists-hope-to-illuminate-universes-dark-side/

(I'll bet there will be a lot of nervous scientists observing the latest shuttle launch.)

Re: Motherlode Peer Group Review

I am VERY sorry here. I really did NOT mean to start this mess. What I meant was that the URL itself was not working, thus I could not get to the add-on. That's quite alright. I was actually just giving you a hard time about calling it "sloppy". I've just checked, and it DOES work in 1.5....

Re: Motherlode Peer Group Review

I'm really not trying to piss anyone off here. It's just that I have little patience for sloppy, or non-working add-ons . Sloppy? ... OK, now you ARE pissing me off! I actually went to quite a lot of trouble to make sure that it had comprehensive installation and usage instructions, and inst...

The Human existence on Earth....something's got to give!

I saw a website earlier tonight which mentioned the population of Monaco was 32,409 in 2005. I believe Monaco is one of (if not the) most densely populated places on earth. With an area of 1.95 sq. km that gives just 60 sq.meters per person. (approx. a square 8m x 8m) This got me thinking... "How lo...

If UR using 1.4.1 then I suggest you download and install my WARPDRIVE.

Re: TNG Warp Drive (RELEASE)

This thread was only ever intended to release my **fictional** addon designed to allow Celestia to **simulate** a **fictional** feature of a TV show known for it's rather casual treatment of real physics. ( You'll note that I posted this in the addons forum, not the P&A forum  ) If it serv...

Re: New candy (work in progress)

Since I'm waiting for Chris to debug his recent sprite code and shadows on dots CMOD not working, I'm starting a new project. Guess what it is ;-) http://nho.ohn.free.fr/celestia/Cham/Divers/structure.jpg It looks like Stage One of Google TiSP: http://www.google.com/tisp/install.html

Re: Celestia has Dark Matter!

The bug happens with my v1.4.1 too. From any view, I clicked just below Spica and the marker came up. No text information was displayed. Nor do G or C (default commands) work on it. However, I could get pretty close to it using the mouse and speed settings (F1 to F7). It seems to be just outside th...

Re: A script to mark ALL Fridger's galaxies

... For example, I was not sure whether the reference had to be the position of Earth or the position of the Celestia observer... Well, just let me know... Neither. IMO, the reference should be the currently selected object (regardless of the observer's position). This would be most useful, as the ...

Re: A script to mark ALL Fridger's galaxies

BTW,

I think the journey I suggested earlier in this post: http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=84433#84433

may be quite interesting with these coloured markers enabled.

(The URL is a 1.4.1 version, but this shouldn't matter at the scales involved  )

Re: A script to mark ALL Fridger's galaxies

For this celx script to work, you first need to implement Vincent's patch (which he posted a few mails back) into the current CVS version. One reason for the patch is to properly read out required info about the DSOs. So I don't see how you can get along without the patch. Bye Fridger Thanks for th...

Re: Celestia has Dark Matter!

I'm using Celestia 1.4.1 on Windows XP, and still not seeing this problem. I click to one side of Spica and the selection marker returns to Sol, with nothing selected. Sorry, got no idea what's going on here. Strange... maybe some conflict with some addon I have, or something specific to my install...

Re: Celestia has Dark Matter!

The muddy brown is due to poor quality screencap...it's actually exactly the same as the selection marker, except nothin is selected. No object is selected or marked,... it's simply marking an empty spot in space somewhere in the solar system. eg. Try selecting Spica, then click just to one side of ...

Re: A script to mark ALL Fridger's galaxies

My 1.4.1 celestia crashes when I run these celx scripts. I assume this is because they are using 1.5.x features.
Can someone tell me what is the 1.5.x specific feature(s) being used?

Perhaps I can rewrite for 1.4.1 by excluding the 1.5.x feature(s)...

Re: Celestia has Dark Matter!

Verbosity WAS activated in all cases. If you use the celURL's (in particular the third one) you will see precisely what was selected in each case. The problem is with the third case, when nothing is selected except empty space. ...there's no actual object selected ... ... however there IS a red mark...

Celestia has Dark Matter!

No, unfortunately it's not true. Although this seems like dark matter, it's possibly just a strange and mildly annoying bug... This happens in 1.4.1. Haven't tested in 1.5.x Basically, if I start here at an overview of the solar system... I can select stars ... but if I click on any empty space ... ...

Re: Multiple monitors & Celestia

I tracked down the information I referred to earlier, which happily I had saved to my harddisk. IMO, a proper memory management and garbage collection strategy in CELESTIA would mitigate or delay to some extent the onset of these limitations in 32bit windows. For example, textures on objects which m...
