Re: Asteroid could hit Mars
Currently a 1 - 75 chance. More observations should clear this up.

Re: The 200" Hale Telescope on Mt. Palomar
I've been looking at Seldon's work on this and I am quite impressed. I work at Palomar and he certainly has done a fantastic job.

Re: Light Pollution
in my experience absolutely nothing will bring back the clear skies we used to have decades ago. I agree that we should try to avoid further pollution, but I'm afraid that increasing populations, expanding cities with more and more lights, have made those long ago starry nights rare. There are remo...

Re: Comet McNaught
Congratulations on your spectacular view of Comet McNaught.
Last weekend on Saturday and Sunday I had the pleasure of seeing McNaught and its tail in broad daylight without optical aid! It was one of the most amazing things that I have ever seen in the sky.

Re: The 200" Hale Telescope on Mt. Palomar
I would like to thank Seldon for his hard work on this project! The model of the telescope & dome looks great!
Once we have v1.5.0final for the mac it will actually be shown to visitors at Palomar.

Re: Server troubles
It is good to see that things are up and running again. I know how much fun it is to be without power. I had 4 days without it last March when we got 3 feet of snow.

Re: What do you do when you're not here?
I work at the Palomar Observatory as their public information officer. There are quite a few JPL people here from time to time.
I am using Celestia to put together a solar system tour that would highlight some (hopefully) interesting asteroid and KBO discoveries made from Palomar.

Re: Playing in extragalactic space
Yes the question was wrong. It would have been correct had they used the word "spiral" though. Our galaxy does indeed obscure our satellite galaxies. The discovery of several new satellites to the Milky Way was announced recently. Let me dig up the right link. In the mean time here's a list of many ...

Asteroid Cel Script question
I am writing a Cel script. If I want asteroid orbits to be suddenly rendered in my script, what is the command to turn them on?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: The Milky Way as a nebula
Yes, it looks really good from the inside too ! I set the inside luminosity according to Fridger's default SBc.pts model. You can download the SBbc.pts file here : http://vincent.gian.club.fr/celestia/VL.zip Rename it Sbc.pts, and then replace your Sbc.pts default model with this one. Just keep in ...

Re: DOWNLOAD Celestia patch3 final: sound, image/text overlay...
Hi Gang,
Sorry to ask a newbie question but I am running 1.4.1 on my Mac. To install the patch do I get just version 3 or do I need the earlier versions as well.
Thanks!
