Re: How to draw an orbit trace behind object?

Ah brilliant, thanks very much - it's a really nice feature for visualising spacecraft, especially with complex orbits. I'll have a go at compiling the latest source code and have a play! Thanks for the help!

How to draw an orbit trace behind object?

Hi, Someone recently sent me a Celestia video taken where the orbit trace is only drawn behind the object (it's running a sampled orbit) rather than the whole orbit being drawn. I've got a video of the effect here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wqE8aKDxts (with Phobos and Mars Express showing the ...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Ok...changed the misspelled Celestia on the Help page of the website...sorry about that!! Also added a note there that v1.5 or higher is required to be able to use the scripts (is it the setting of RenderFlags in a table that forces this...just for curiousity?). Hopefully this will make it clearer t...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Good spot on that typo...really really sorry for that - guess it missed the spellcheck! Luckily the Celestia link on the right of the site (which is on every page) is correctly spelled. Will ask about getting that one on the help page corrected first thing on Monday. Selden's right - every single ob...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

For all of those interested in the VMC Mars Webcam project we have now launched the website with our full image catalogue. Of course there are also the celx scripts available for the observations to show the location where the images were taken. We've also made sure to put links to Celestia on the s...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Perfect, thanks Selden, that seemed to work. Unfortunately I can't post the images here at this time (we're keeping them a surprise for when the site launches on Friday) but this celx covers one observation where we flew over the planet capturing images every minute or so for 10 minutes. Any comment...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Ok, thanks for all your comments, I now have something that will be the base of what we will use. I've attached it to this post. It's a celx script that will take the user to the location Mars Express was at when it captured the webcam image and allow the user to step through all the images taken in...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

I'm aiming to get the minimum downloadables to at least see where each image was captured. Therefore while we might make a Mars Express SSC available, ideally I'd like to do without it. My question then is this: I know that it's possible to set an observer position in a celx script but how to I spec...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Ok, I've got the basics ready, which is really a very very simple ssc that places a small white sphere in the position of Mars Express, deriving the position from a large (~4.7 Mb) xyz that has the positions of Mars Express listed every 10 minutes for 2007 and 2008. Unfortunately this is too big to ...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Thanks again for the responses - I know this is a bit last minute but it suddenly struck me that it would be great to get some Celestia involvement (as I've always loved the software and would like it to have a bigger part on the ESA website). I think actually that a launch site with later updates f...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Thanks for the positive responses so far. For the model I have seen that one on the Celestia Motherlode, of course we would credit Jack Higgins, but we would also need to get in touch with him for his permission (one of the reasons for my post). For the map resolution, the standard Celestia textures...

Re: New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

We do indeed have models of Mars Express but they're not ones that easily or quickly translate into Celestia, hence was looking for an existing add-on that we could add for download on our site. I cannot and do not speak for the whole agency, but where I publish work using Celestia I do credit it to...

New ESA Website - Mars 'Webcam' Celestia Tie-In

Dear all, Not sure where the best place to post this is but I'll add it here and feel free to move it. I'm working on Mars Express and we're about to launch a website for the public to view the results from a small 640x480 camera on the spacecraft that we've been operating for a year now. The websit...

More ESA Celestia

Hi again everyone, just thought you might be interested to know we just posted another shot on our website from Celestia. Go check it out at http://www.esa.int , or for the full story go to http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/SEMRSP8LURE_0.html . I've copied the picture below, it's actually a M...

Re: ESA uses Celestia

Hi again everyone...first of all sorry the picture links stopped working, think I've fixed that now. Also, thanks to an e-mail from Jestr I'd also like to extend thanks to Mario Rossi of Space-Graphics.com who provided Jestr the original Mars map images. The question of what we use Celestia for has ...

Oops..

Ok, for anyone interested in contacting me to learn more about ESA using Celestia etc. I realised my e-mail was not on my profile! Sorry, to everyone, it should now appear on there. Thanks too for the comments, glad you like our main control room, our routine control room is actually a bit smaller (...

More from ESA

Hi everyone, Without wanting to reignite what seemed to be a heated debate I'd like to add a little more about ESA's use of Celestia. I'd also like to mention that our Celestia images on the website should now all be credited to ESA and Celestia. I work for the Mars Express flight control team at th...
