Portable version anywhere ?

Hi all, It has been a long time ! :) and I see that the current version on Sourcforge is still 1.6.1 which I think I have on an old computal in my attic ! I would like to get back up to speed with Celestia on this my every-day machine, - so, a bit of a long-shot, has anyone made a portable version t...

Re: Welcome to restored Celestia Forums

Wow, that's a "blast from the past", when I checked an old email account > what a nice surprise ! @Don.Edwards above #7 says "Well, who says the dead can't be resurrected." so true ! ( in more ways than one in some cases  !! ) Come to think of it -- I dont actually have a Ce...

Re: Dreaming about a better Celestia Forum...

Hi all, snips of the usual self-promotion by the usual Fridger As you have often said to DanielJ, if you want something doing, do it yourself. Start some interesting discussion without all the preamble of how good you are and how long you have been here etc and interesting folk will nodoubt join in...

Re: Help! My Unicorn run away... (REDEEMED)

I'm quite out of breath chasing this b*&^%y unicorn all over the forums (fora ? cue extended linguistic debate :o ) Why on earth are we then living in 4=3+1 some folks have done it on the moon as well for a short time ;) and not in 5, 6 or 8 dimensions?? Is perhaps our very existence intrinsically c...

Re: Celestia System Editor

The RICHTX32.OCX file contains all the code needed for windows to use the Rich Text ActiveX control. It's harmless Thanks for the info. a b i o g e n e s i s, you motivated me to dig a bit deeper and I have found that the RICHTX32.OCX exists inside the .CAB which is inside the .ZIP that Rassilon pr...

Re: A planetarium sphere within Celestia

Malcom, My (possibly mistaken) understanding is that cylindrical maps are used directly by the graphics hardware Ah, I see, yes that would sort of tie Chris's hands a bit ! Thanks for the clarification. There's a low resolution version of the mosaic on his Web site which can be used by individuals,...

Re: A planetarium sphere within Celestia

Nicely done Selden, I like it ! The annoying thing is that most of the all-sky maps posted on the Web are Aitoff projections. Surface maps for a sphere need to be Plate Carree projections (aka simple cylindrical). Maybe one of our friends at NASA can use a little gentle persuasion..... ;) Or perhaps...

Mike...I still can't log into your site. I get the same message as Andrea from your download list link. The link to your 'index' page just gives me a blank page. Weird. I'll keep trying. regards...bh. Yes, I get the same as you and Andrea on the download link. I also get a blank page on his 'index'...

Re: Extrasolar planets have disappeared! Help!

b) Try using WordPad instead of NotePad. It works just as well for me, anyhow. Hi Selden, just a little thing of no great consequence : I have recently been playing with the Ulysses ssc files off your site and have found odd characters in them ( I presume formatting characters ? as though they have...

Re: Extrasolar planets have disappeared! Help!

Hi bh, you asked "Please help if you can..." well I am not sure if I can ! but I'll try :) I did a cut&paste of your two planets into my notepad and saved it as bh.ssc I placed it in my extras folder and ran my Celestia1.2.5. Both planets appeared ok ! So it would seem that there is no (obvious?...

Re: Star Trek spacecraft now available

There does seem to be a problem with Netscape handling your page. Also the OffByOne browser is having trouble as well. Before you email your friend, it may be advisable to see if anyone else can confirm that it is a problem with the spaces ( this is only my _guess_ ) and as I said, I am not an exper...

Re: Star Trek spacecraft now available

You should always insert the full path into <a href = "http://...."> No, that is not necessary. A local (on the server) directory/folder structure can be navigated from the originating web page. It is quite common. In fact a down-side of including a full http: web link is that if a visitor download...

Re: Crash when going to Earth, Earth's sattelites and Mars

Selden & Chris : Thank you, very helpful comments, all noted for when I do the upgrade. PS I probably would have done it by now except I got distracted by learning how to do some 3D modelling stuff ! ( no one responded to my plea for a Ulysses model, so I guess there isn't one out there, so I've...

Ulysses model please?

Has anyone got a model of Ulysses for use in Celestia ?

I have searched the forum but only got two hits,
one is requesting a model,
and the other by Selden pointing to his .ssc but that uses the galileo.3ds

Re: New Textures for Neptune, our sun (gstar) and tectonic Earth

Hi folks: I want to thank you all for helping me on this thing. I think I've got the steps for posting thumbnails here in the forum, but I'm hesitant to try it out yet. I've got to assimilate it for a bit. I know the feeling, I am playing with a .3ds cube, but be*d*ned if I can uvmap it! I need to ...
