Re: Looking for Jens' 2k Mercury Texture

Hi Bob, here is a screen shot. :-) (8K mercury VT) http://www.webhosting4free.org/jimpage/images/mercury_v2_s.jpg (this thumbnail links to a much larger image, 150kb) Chris, if you want you can send all my addons to "Motherlode". Now I can't do that because I still hang on a slow dial up. :-( Bye Jens

Re: Looking for Jens' 2k Mercury Texture

I don't see the new texture there yet, but I'll get it as soon as I do see it. Now it seem that all of the motherlode guy's are in holiday. ;-) When tomorrow nothing happens I will send it via mail to you. Do you mind if I include your texture with my Tour of Mercury when it's finished? No problem ...

Here's a mosaic of the most recent Cassini raw images showing the whole illuminated disk: http://world.std.com/~mmcirvin/iapetus_mosaic.jpg I'm no geologist, but in appearance, the spine reminds me of nothing so much as Earth's mid-ocean ridges, which come from sea-floor spreading at plate boundari...

Re: Looking for Jens' 2k Mercury Texture

Hi Bob,

Sorry, I don't know if Chris will restart this part of shatters.net.
I've uploaded a reviced 2k version of my Mercury texture to motherload - I hope you like it. :-)

Pre10/11 render bug with OverlayTexture and OpenGL/NVIDEA co

Hi all, I've notice a bug happens only with the latest versions of Celestia (pre10/11) and only with 'OpenGL vertex progam/NVIDEA combiners'. If I switch to an overlay texture (e.g. LOK mask) the planet gets dark and wrong illuminated. With Celestia1.3.2pre8 this bug doesn't happen. Here are a shot....

Re: Steve Albers' Europa texture - revised

Hi all, I would prefer png as normal map, but it's up to you. Now I've used high quality JPG for the normal map. The file has the half size of the best PNG and artifacts are not visible. :-) The Europa map pack is now available on my site. Many thanks goes further to Celestia Motherload for hosting ...

Re: Steve Albers' Europa texture - revised

Cham and Maxim, I will upload my texture at this weekend if I found a bit time to prepare the zip's. Shall I include my normal map? At the moment my textures are dds dxt3 for surface and dds u888 for the normal map (best dds-quality on nvidea grafic). DBrady, thanks for the tip. I've tested this too...

There is no DOS emulator on a Mac to run 'nvdxt' or another commandline conversion tool ?

Re: Saturn in natural colors ?

Hi all, Good news, I could reproduce this "exquisite natural colour view of Saturn's rings" with very simple methodes. The folowing picture shows both the original NASA release below left and my rebuild with the raw images above right divided by the diagonal. http://www.shatters.net/~jim/images/cass...

Re: Saturn in natural colors ?

Hi all, ... the dynamic range of it's 16 bit raw images ... Sorry, a little mistake. The raw data are "only" 12 bit images. Looks like the "black" background isn't very black there... which is a sign that the images aren't calibrated. So a start would be to find the DN of "space" in each imag...

Re: Saturn in natural colors ?

As to your new RGB Saturn composite, I think there must still be a normalization problem somewhere. As I suggested in the developer's list, we might determine the normalization from precisely reproducing the yellow equatorial band from the HST Heritage "truecolor" photo. Moreover the darkness of th...

Saturn in natural colors ?

Hi all, I've noticed the discussion on developer mailing list about the "real colors" of saturn. We all know this beautiful Cassini pictures from Saturn which are labled with "slightly color enhanced". Now I ask myself what does it mean and searched for some R,G,B raw images to check this. I've foun...

Re: Phoebe in color

It's interesting that your reference image is described as "natural colour" - an earlier, identically coloured image was described as "contrast enhanced" on first release (and the original NASA information on this one called it "colour enhanced", too, though that URL is dead). But now, the same ima...

Re: 2k Saturn rings in true color

Hi all, it is done! A improved version of the "real color" Cassini-Saturn-rings is ready. I didn't know how expensive this job could be. The idea was to combine Grant's alpha with my rings. The main problem was I must notice that something is wrong with Grant's alpha. Parts of the A-ring, the transp...

Re: Use for any higher VT levels

But in this case I think the level 10 which is 40meter/pixel is not adequate. As far as I know there are some technical limets that prevent Chris to to alow higher levels. I'd have to use an image with a resolution of 400000 pixels at level 10 to match this level of resolution. This will not work b...

Re: Phoebe in color

Did you then use these true-colour images to calibrate the intensity of your extracted colour data? Can you provide a link? That would be very useful. I'm not sure what you mean. What I did was to build a simple ring texture (only rgb) from a released picture (PIA06077) and used this to adju...
