Back from the wilderness... But not for too long...
Um... Hi everyone! *awkward silence* Right... :| It's been over 5 months since my last visit here, last post was on April 3rd 8O *sigh* Feel a bit strange suddenly coming back after all this time, but it had to be done sooner or later. First off, i'd like to apologise to anyone who was looking forwa...

Fill in your location details, and you'll see all the visible iridium flares listed for your location, every night!
I haven't been out in ages, but the last time I was, I saw three that were brighter than mag -5 in 90 minutes

Re: Atlantis
Um.. Well.. When I was making that zip, i never got around to making the ssc file to place the shuttle (with cargo bay open/closed) in orbit. You might just be better off to get bh's versions of the shuttle, which are much more developed versions of my models, which I got off (I think) fsgregs origi...

Re: Houdini models - bug or artifact?
Would it be possible to model this with an XYZ file, then? Or will this run into the same limit? (A problem eventually for simulating the Voyager probes, no?)
Yup, same limit for xyz files, but the voyagers xyz's end in 2040, WELL before the rendering limit would start to affect them.

Re: Cedna & asteroid 2004 FH in Celestia
Learning how to make xyz files through horizons is a fun thing to know as well, I made an xyz of the 2004 FH flyby as soon as I heard about it, and viewed a bit of it in real time as it went past. It's a bit detailed to describe in one post, but basically download the Horizons user manual, and use t...

Re: Quiz - What is your score ?
And just a little update- I thought my friends (science-oriented ones) wouldn't get more than 30 in the quiz... Looks like I overestimated them, somewhat! I see an average of only 20 or so, in the people who are interested in this kind of thing... Chris, tim is right, if you see this, please move th...

Or better yet...allow object classes to be added dyamically
Would be a nice feature to see!

Re: Atlantis
Yeah, that was my model I think... If you type in "Atlantis" you should be able to tab down to the one at KSC, just G for goto it, and you're there. It doesn't actually launch though, it just sits there.. How do you mean it "doesnt open"? Have you tried editing another earth orbit ssc and seeing if ...

It was only from my prior experience with updating the tiny/new moons file that I knew all those names!! 33/61  (I didn't even get Lune right) Hm... :) Okay, getting lune wrong is inexcusable :D  but it's probably still better than most of the general public- I doubt many of my friends w...

Re: ARGH! Too many add-ons!
Jack ran his own moons file in parallel for a while, which more or less duplicated the Celestia version; that's JACKtiny_or_new_moons.ssc. I don't know how recently he's updated it. Ages and ages ago - it's safe to say that there will be no more updates for this ever. I'll probably delete it off my...

Spam.. Viruses... Ugh... Yesterday I got one alleging to be from my ISP's mail admin, telling me to install this file to keep myself secure. Re: MUSES-C / Hayabusa xyz?
When MUSES-C was launched originally, I emailed the team at HORIZONS to see if they'd add it to their spacecraft list. They said that this was an unlikely possibility, so unless JAXA do the ESA thing & start using it on their mission control big screens, I don't think we're going to see a Hayabusa x...

Re: My Atlantis space shutle is inside earth. Help me!
Don't bother with that ssc, its easier just to change Earth's radius to suit. (I made that ssc btw!)
Try setting earth's radius (in solarsys.ssc) to
and tell us what the results are.

Recently, I've been doing quite a bit of work with shaders that will be the foundation for experiments with better lighting models. Nice! Time for Jack to get himself a new graphics card soon then...
