Re: ISS in wrong place

OK, ignore this. I found the info that low orbit stuff does go awry over time. I also found this excellent page, and using the Two Line Element Translation: tle.xls I have correctly the ISS orbit information. # ssc file by Ulrich Dickmann (Adirondack) Modify "ISS" "Sol/Earth" { M...

ISS in wrong place

On Thursday night, me and few friends saw the ISS go over Portsmouth, England - great sight. The next day I was going to do a screen dump from Celestia to show them the view 'from space'. BUT, entering correct time and date, Celestia shows the ISS hundreds of miles away over Africa. Is the orbit of ...

Post deleted. For some reason the forum will not allow me to attach a *.xml or a *.txt file.

Re: New machine - new install - strange distances on bookmarks

Well, basically I build with KDE environment. So I get a toolbar with default 'bookmarks' - Follow Earth, Moon Liberation etc. None of them work. 'Mars Fly By' is a good example that puts me 206.42eu away. EDIT: Ok, it's the data in the file 'src/celestia/kde/data/bookmarks.xml' that is out of date ...

New machine - new install - strange distances on bookmarks

Hi all, I recenty got a new machine (AMD64 running 32bit Slackware 12.1), and installed 1.5.1 again (fresh source code). All works very well, but if I run the bookmarked demos, I am viewing from around several AU away and thus just sit there looking into space... A good example is the 'mars fly-by' ...

What /.configure line did you use?

Re: Celestia Installed Fine, but KDE Crashes.

Ack, no debug.

I agree it is an old distro. What version KDE, btw?

You could also bite the bullet and build celestia from source - that will at least use the libs you have.

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

I have

But this wasn't what I was on about. I understand the issues with all the permutations available, but you read through this forum, there is very little help at all with any bug reported.

Not even a 'don't know'.

That was all I was saying.

Re: Celestia Installed Fine, but KDE Crashes.

OK, to debug a bit more, try this (hopefully your system has the GNU debugger). In a console type: # gdb celestia You will see a lot of stuff load. Then in the gdb prompt, run it (this will now try to run celestia within the debugger): (gdb) run If it crashes, you will be at the gdb prompt again. Th...

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

Eh? It;s a QT build option - nothing to do with what GNU/Linux version. QT recommend turninmg off stl anyway, and it looks like most distros are building QT with slt off. From trolltech site: We want our container classes to behave in the same way on all platforms. The different compilers might have...

Yep, that builds correct now, thanks! :D

BTW, I would never have got that fix in a 1000 years  (I think I tried everything else).

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

Nah, I did mess about with this a bit - I can't remember if I tried similar. And I see re QT build line '-no-stl' I build my own QT, but do use Slackware configure line. Should I build QT with stl enabled? then mv -f ".deps/celsplashscreen.Tpo" ".deps/celsplashscreen.Po"; \ else rm -f ".deps/celspla...

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

If you actually read the post, the 'original' poster uses Russian. I am in England, and thus use English - same error.

The error has nothing to do with Locale. It is something to do with the code on calling C++ libraries.

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

"But how come I can build Linux kernels 2.6.16.xx, KDE3.3.5, QT3.3.6, Xorg6.9.0, GCC etc. etc. all from source with NO errors at all?" You ignored what I said. It is only Celestia (out of all the 100's of applications I build from source) that fails to build on that one line. I am not knocking, but ...

Re: Why is there so little feedback here?

OK, lets take one example - the thread here, with my hack to fix the build: http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9090 Now, you _could_ say this was a issue with Slackware, and nothing to do with Celestia code. But how come I can build Linux kernels 2.6.16.xx, KDE3.3.5, QT3.3.6, Xorg6...

Why is there so little feedback here?

Celestia is a great application, no doubt about it.

But why is there virtually no feedback in this forum at all. Not even an 'OK, we don't know' type reponse to the issues people see?

I mean, why even have a 'bug forum' if all it is for is users to post to and then ignored?
