Has anyone made a sphere/is there an easy way to do this?
I think this would be the best solution of all.

Re: How to view my own sky
You may also find "Ctrl-F" helpful, for "alt/azimuth" mode. It makes the arrow keys navigate much more like a stellarium. (You've obviously already found where you live, but another useful option is "GoTo Object" in the navigation menu, as t alows you to type in the exa...

Re: need troubleshooting help: fictional planet around real star
Ahh bdm, you are a lifesaver! It turns out that it was because the *.ssc file was not in the "extras" directory; i just had it sitting in the "data" directory. Isn't it always something so close to ones nose that one cannot see it...? For some reason i remembered putting add-ons ...

need troubleshooting help: fictional planet around real star
(I posted this under "celestia add-ons", then realised it should probably go in this forum, so i deleted and reposted here. Sorry if you were viewing it there and suddenly find it's over here...) Hey all, I am trying to draw a fictional planet around a real star (specifically, Procyon A). ...

Re: Is there spacecraft interior that acts like Celestial Grid?
I am having trouble getting into the flight deck itself; the "a" and "z" buttons cause me to overshoot the cabin quite a bit. I wonder if anyone has a bookmark located inside the cabin?

Thank-you all for the pointers.
I definitely have a lot to learn about Photoshop, had no idea it could do that!
Irfanview... i like the sound of the "Brain-dead" aspect to it...

Is there spacecraft interior that acts like Celestial Grid?
Hey all, I am aware that there is, somewhere, a Celestia mod that includes a spacecraft interior, which i think just pastes the forward view of an imaginary craft over the Celestia view. I was wondering if it was possible to make something a bit different from that, so that, rather than having the u...

Re: terminology question: what is a "normal map"?
I should mention, by the way, i did look through the "Some informations about textures (little FAQ)" FAQ at the top of the board, and found this exchange: what is the difference between a normalmap and a standard texture http://members.shaw.ca/jimht03/normal.html Bye Jens ...but (as you'll...

terminology question: what is a "normal map"?
Hey all, Stupid question, i am sure: I had thought that "normal map" meant, an image file that just 'maps' directly onto a spherical object, as opposed to a specular map, cloud map, night map, or an image file that maps onto a non-spherical custom-designed object like a spacecraft or a non...

Any batch image processing reccomendations (for VT images)?
Hi all, I am interested in altering John Van Vliet's beautifully complete Venus Virtual Texture to make the surface look yellow (at the moment it's gray, but i'd like to have it look like it would if you could see through the clouds rather than if the clouds weren't there. In Photoshop it's pretty s...

4k Textures?
I find the same problem with the 4k cloud textures.
Why is it that you can't have moving clouds with any more than a 2k cloud map? I wonder if there's some way to work around it.

Playing in extragalactic space
Hey all; I recently heard someone (i think it was on a quiz show) refer to the Andromeda galaxy as the closest galaxy to the Milky Way, and it set off my b.s. detctor. I thought of the LMC and SMC, but then i wasn't sure if perhaps they could be argued to be attached to our galaxy. So i turned to Ce...

Re: How do I get rid of Pluto's label?
Yup, i thought of that; thanks :) I now have "Xena (Eris) 2003 UB 313" and "Gabrielle (Dysnomia) 2005...i-forget-the-full-designation". Which makes them a bit more annoying to find by searching for the name, but that doesn't really matter, as making Xena a planet makes them both easier to find just ...

Notes on editing the LabelledStars section...
I encountered a strange quirk while editing LabelledStars, so i thought i would record it here for others to see. When you're dealing with a multiple-star system (e.g. Rigel Kentaurus), apparently if you label the barycentre, the star label will not show up. I think the reason for this is that Celes...

Re: How do I get rid of Pluto's label?
Actually i was wondering about 0 "zero" key, rather than the O "oh" key - as the keys 1-though-9 gives you Mercury-through-Pluto (unless you've gone along with the IAU's demotion ;) I personally think Pluto/Eris(Xena)/etc... as "icy planets" is more scientifically relevant than the official "minor p...

Hmmm..... If i add the line:
{
Class "planet"
... to 2003 UB313, will it add Xena/Eris as a planet?
...will "0" act as it's hotkey?
*goes to experiment...*

Re: Selecting the names of specific stars to appear in a view
Thanks to both of you for the advice; ChuftCaptain; the LabelledStars edit sounds like the closest match to what i'd like to do. I'll have a look at that. Might also play with the Filter Stars slider - i didn't realise it could filter by distance - i thought it was apparent magnitude, but then i nev...
