Lo-mid-hi-res switching in Celestia 1.6.0 final
Regretfully, I cannot switch between rendering low, mid and hi-res textures when running Celestia 1.6.0 final (as of June 20) as well as either of the 1.6.0 release candidates using 'R' and 'Shift+R' keys. These hotkeys are specified in the keyboard operating window under the 'Help' menu. Is this du...

Re: Newest Version of Celestia 1.6
Chris has had a new RC version at his website since yesterday. However, it does not seem to be working perfectly yet, since when launched, it is collapsing and showing an 14001 error code. Ah well, here is the link:

Right.
So have a go at http://www.ivvi.newmail.ru/Patch151.zip
The file should now be permanent there.
Thank you for downloading the script.

Re: Celestia modification to have "hotter" stars
Dear All, sorry for not responding, I have not been to the forums for long... The web page is indeed not responding, for the code is totally corrupted. But the pictures should open, at least they do when I click the links in this thread. Can you see the screenshots here? This already should give you...

Re: Windows Executable from SVN
Heuu... ...Dirkpitt is the guiltly one for HDR implementation, not Chris... The background stars disappearing on approach of a star or any too bright object is the main purpose of HDR; it's not a bug... Then thank you Dirkpitt, it really is a nice work. If the stars disappearing is not a bug then I...

Re: Windows Executable from SVN
I TOTALLY like the HDR philosophy implemented in Celestia. I don't now how Chris has managed to make it but it's very, very good-looking. An additional fuzzy fringe would do the stars absolutely marvellous (could be turned off and on)! Something will have to be done with that awfully bright glare on...

Re: Earthsim 2
I tried it and I really did not like it. There are no clouds, The stars are rendered awfully, as is the sun. Perhaps it is worth buying for the functions it offers, as far as it goes down to 3D terrains, but the wider outlook (when you look at the Earth globally) sucks against Celestia

Celestia modification to have "hotter" stars
Dear Celestia users, I modified Celestia a little bit so that the stars are again as hot and glowing as in the old 1.4.1. Of course, the textures are almost gone, but the spectral class-specific colours are still there and in my opinion, the ability to "feel" the incredible heat is worth sacrificing...

Hi, I speak and read Russian and probably could help you there. Please reply to PM or to ivvi@shmel.com
Btw, thanks for your nice textures

Re: Celestia 1.5.0 prerelease 5
Thanks Chris. The stars are definitely more convincing now, although not yet as "hot and glowing" as they were in Cleestia 1.4.1, but still much, much better :) I am going to enjoy this release now. Is it possible to thicken the atmosphere a little bit? (Or add an option to adjust the stellar atmosp...

Re: Celestia 1.5.0pre3
Well... I don't know exactly is it a specific feature of new version (1.5.0pre3) or maybe it's a problem of my computer, but I can't see the flare around the stars. The Sun and other stars seem like balls with sharp edges. The file flare.jpg is at its standart place (folder "textures") and I didn't...

Re: Star Atmosphere
Do someone has noted how with naked eye (just quick for not to be blind) the Sun appear black with the except of the border? If this is not a mirage, how does implement it in Celestia? Gosh, are you going to look at your monitor so briefly so as not to get blind? :) On a serious note, though,...

Re: Post Bugs Here
selden,
thanks for your instruction, I'll try to edit my post. I only add that I myself am on a dialup line and 30 Kb is quite OK, takes 5 secs to load on 56Kbit, would not take more than 30 secs to load on an ancient 14Kbit, and definitely would not 'hang' the page.

Re: Post Bugs Here
I'm afraid there are lots of images around the forum which are even larger, therefore 640 x 472 are relatively modest. Each of them is about 30Kb. You may also try to look for the direct image url and download the pics in a new window.

LOL yeah that solves everything I'd rather propose smearing the star with mineral oil. Be it a copyrighted idea now LOL

Does anyone know what should be changed in the source code if I want to bring back the stellar atmospheres an?? compile Cleestia personally for myself?

Re: Star Atmosphere
Was the atmosphere as displayed before "realistic" though? That is the question. Yes. You don't need to spend too long looking at the sun (projected!) to notice that it has no fringe of atmosphere around the edge. The hard edge is more "realistic", tho it could use some limb darkening. Technically ...

I did not like the stars rendering in 1.5.0 pre2 and 3, the images are at http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11528 I would like to wish Chris good luck with real life things and ask him - when he launches into the Celestia universe again - to look into it and improve the ugly way the s...
