Re: Computer problems

abramson wrote:Is it possible that a malfunctioning video card made the machine reboot or shutdown?

That's entirely possible. A friend of mine was having similar reboot problems. When he replaced his graphics card, the problem went away.

Edit: I'm not say that it's the actual cause. Just that it's possible.

Re: help with 64k jestr earth mark II instal

First DL the Levels 0-4 DDS .zip, and unzip that into your extras folder. Then DL the Level5 DDS .zip, and unzip those files into the same location as the folders for levels 0-4. So your file structure should look something like this: C:\Program Files\Celestia 1.5.1\extras\JMII DDS\textures\hires\JM...

Can't say that you're not dedicated. :)

Awesome work on your textures. I love all the work you've done.

Comet Lulin

Anyone checking out Comet Lulin? It's been visible for a couple weeks now with a good telescope, and is now visible with a small telescope or good binoculars. Tonight I went out to my local self-designated star gazing spot (which is still horribly light polluted :() to take a look. The only instrume...

Very impressive. I don't know anything about Ringworld, but it was neat to explore the Celestia version.

Re: Nvidia video card tweaks and tools

I always use RivaTuner for setting my overclocks. It has really nice graphs that show realtime core temps, memory usage, clock speeds, and other fanciness. It doesn't have any sort of stability tests, but it's best to do that manually anyway. 3dMark06 is a good stress test for the video card. Or you...

There is no solution, other than hopefully a fix being implemented in v1.6.

Re: The Earth doesn't know what time it is...

The issue has less to do with the position of the terminator, and more to do with the "timing" of the nightside lights. The problem was discussed in this thread.

3m is pretty darn small. It doesn't surprise me it was only one day. Hell, it surprises me they saw the thing at all.

Re: Need some opinions on lighting effects

The second picture looks neat. The first one, I question whether the light should be visible at all. Star light is usually pretty bright. Much brighter than any spotlight.

Re: Possibly stupid question

Celestia is not a game. I guess it could be considered a space flight sim, since you can "fly around" in space, but that's not really the point. The main purpose of Celestia is to simulate our universe, and to view that simulation. There are spacecraft add-ons, but they're just scenery. An...

Re: Custom-building a computer to run Celestia

What follows is in my opinion and is in no way intended to flame anyone else's opinion on the matter. ;) What Andrea is suggesting would be one of the best machines you could be build, but it is quite unnecessary for what Celestia needs. Note that you will get better performance with his layout, but...

One thing. CTRL-G automatically synchronizes your orbit.
