Actually most of changes which affects Unices are already included as patches.

Well, i look forward to the rebuild. That way i know i'll have caught all the patches and have everything consistent. Thanks!

Re: Celestia 1.6.2 is out

Is 1.6.2 available for linux? I see that the link on the downloads page still has the original link (whereas the Win and Mac links have both for 1.6.1 and 1.6.2).

Re: latest version for linux

Hi all- I am now attempting a new install on a new system, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have followed the instructions at https://github.com/CelestiaProject/Celestia/blob/master/INSTALL.md (i'm using Mint 20, so it's Ubuntu 20.04 based). When i try to start, i get the error Cannot chdir to '...

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

"Magellan" burned down in the Venusian atmosphere in 1994 year. Time needs to be rewound.

Heh... good point. But what about Earth's Orbital Station?

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

Hmmm... unfortunately, i seem to be missing models / textures. For example, i do not see the model for Earth's Orbital Station, though i did see it before i installed the hi res version. I also don't see Magellan around Venus- i can find it and go to it, but there's no model. But unlike at Earth, i ...

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

The script is closely related to all three archives. Therefore, if you want to use the highest quality, everything must be downloaded in full. Ah, i see. I missed that detail. I've downloaded the medium, and now it is doing the install properly. Thanks! One more quick question- the 11.3 patch. How ...

The archives are in the right place. But why you don't mention the Medres archive?

I haven't downloaded the medium ones, but i can give that a try.

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

Yeah, immediately after i press 1 and hit enter, the terminal just closes. Does the .7z file have to be in a pariticular file location relative to the install script? I have it in the same folder as the Core.7z (that is, Core.7z and Hires.7z are in the same folder). The install script did work prope...

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

The archive is unpacked automatically using a script. The user does not need to unpack anything by himself.

That is how i first attempted it, but the script immediately stopped. So i unpacked the .7z file and tried again, but there was no difference.

You have downloaded the Hires archive? On your disk enough space to unpack it?

Yes, it is downloaded and unpacked.

Re: Project "Celestia Origin", release dated April 30, 2020

Hi all-

I have managed to get the core installed, but only by telling it to install the core-4k option (#5). When i try to install the hires-4k option (#1), the terminal just abruptly closes and doesn't do anything. What am i doing wrong?

That seems to have fixed it. I wonder why it is not included in the primary install. Regardless, thanks much!

Re: missing textures

have you installed celestia-common-nonfree? this should include textures and models No, i don't see reference to that in the install functions. How would i get / install it? Markerz wrote:how was it installed?

I followed the instructions from the Download section (https://celestia.space/download.html) which redirected to:
https://bintray.com/celestia/releases-deb/celestia/view/readmore#read

Things work, it's just missing the textures.

Re: missing textures

So i did a full reinstall of Celestia, and the textures are still missing. It seems like the default textures aren't included. I've searched for the texture files and they're simply not there. What happened?

missing textures

Hi all- I have been running Celestia on my Linux machine (Mint, which is Ubuntu-based) and all seemed fine. But now i seem to be missing most of my textures. Jupiter and all its moons are just big white balls. Same for Mars, Neptune and Uranus. But Saturn seems ok (at least for some its moons). I ca...

onetwothree wrote:Have you read INSTALL.md? It has everything you need.

Thanks. I've followed the instructions and got celestia-gtk 1.6.1 installed. I think i had 1.7 before, though maybe that is a development version.

How do i add extras? I recall i need an extras folder, but can't recall where it goes.

latest version for linux

Hi all-

What is the latest version of Celestia for linux (Mint)? Where can one get it and how does one install?

I just did an upgrade to Mint 20, which required purging old repositories, and it removed my previous version. So i figure i might as well get the latest and greatest. Thanks.

Re: internal timing weirdness

Yes, Qt5. No, not the latest. Our binary builds are updated every new commit. And of course you can build it yourself. Well, i'm relatively new to linux, and builds and installs are not my forte. Is this a step-by-step instruction set i can follow should i want to update to the latest version? -Fizz

onetwothree wrote:No, I meant what Celestia's interface do you use?

Oh i see. The version i am running is Celestia 1.7.0 (Qt5 beta version, git commit 177683027). So i guess that means it's qt5? If not, where else would i find the interface information?

BTW, is that still the latest linux version?
