Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Maybe my math is off, but 825 m3 & assuming a 2-3 meter high "ceiling", we're looking at a square area of under 400 m2 That is OK for some people but we're talking 100 people here for 10 months. Not something I would want to experience, I tell ya!

Re: Celestial Matters site alive again!

I don't want to belabor the issue, but Fridger kept making his promises of his pending public release for at least 5 years ... maybe more. Repeatedly, folks on the site asked him to make even a few interim releases ... please share with us your new version of Celestia to date, with beautiful galaxie...

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Thanks so much. Am I to presume this craft will be similar to the one Musk plans to send to Mars, with 100 people onboard? If so, good grief! Spending 8 - 10 months inside this small silo is ... NUTS!

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Just found the models for Perseverance, MAVEN and Parker Solar Probe. Thanks so much. I meant Starship1. Assuming Musk plans to get it into orbit soon, it would be nice to include a model of it in my educational activities. Since it has little surface texture aside from being stainless steel looking...

Re: Spacecrafts for Celestia

Hi. Just discovered this thread. I am slowly revising the free Educational Activities I used to create for schools who wanted to use Celestia in classrooms. To that end, I am seeking spacecraft models for (1) MAVEN, (2) Mars Perseverance Rover (3) The Parker Solar Probe and (4) Musk's Spaceship1. Do...

Re: Celestial Matters site alive again!

I read the thread. The entire point was the false promises of public release in the near future. We cannot ever know if Fridger really planned to share his work with the world or not, but constantly promising to do so any day now, ... releasing tantalizing screenshots, seeking compliments about his ...

Re: Celestial Matters site alive again!

BH: Its my understanding that Fridger worked on both concepts for at least 2 years, based on his posts. The screenshots he posted were really great, so the code is probably extensive. Maybe, if anyone in our forum is at least on cordial terms with him ... maybe ... they could get him to share even s...

Re: Celestial Matters site alive again!

Such a shame really. Fridger really was/is a genius in making Celestia shine. His reworkings of galaxies and the new mechanics of Celestia as revealed on Celestia.sci (and formerly CelestiaMatters), were really stunning. Too bad he chose to withhold this great effort from the general public and use ...

Re: Enhanced Celestia (Cel+)

Hi. I always love possibilities to enhance Celestia. I have three questions: 1. Has the first build been released yet? If so, where can I find it? 2. I assume Celestia + is not an addon to drop into the extras folder, but possibly a rewrite of the main program. Is that correct? If so, are there inst...

There is just such an addon on Motherlode

For years, a big Red Giant addon has been available on the Motherlode, but it has been included as one of several addons in one of the Celestia Educational Activities . As a F/u to this post, I have now just uploaded it to the Motherlode as its own separate addon, called "Red-Giant'Earth.zip&qu...

New update for Celestia Users Guide for 1.6.1

Thanks to Selden, I discovered that the Users Guide I wrote for Celestia 1.6.0 in 2014, had not been updated since 1.6.1 came out. That is now corrected. I have posted a new Users Guide for 1.6.1 on the motherlode, at http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/documentation.html Since the celestia.sp...

Re: Starship Avalon" from the movie, "Passengers"

Thanks John. I saw this and realized it was a 3D printed model. I did not realize it could be converted to a digital 3DS or CMOD. I wish I knew how to do all this. I once tried to learn Blender, and it was so far above my ability I just gave it up. I guess you can't teach an old 70 yr old dog new tr...

Starship Avalon" from the movie, "Passengers"

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2016 movie, "Passengers", starring Jennifer Lawrence and /Chris Pratt. The movie took place on a massive "starship" named, "Avalon", which was designed by the movie directors to be somewhat realistic. It rotated to simulate gravity, and did not ...

Any new Jupiter textures from Juno?

Juno has been active since it arrived in Jupiter space this past summer. Since then, it has taken some spectacular photos of Jupiter, showing details of clouds never seen before, particularly near the poles. Here is one such view. eaba964564cdf1f7338194ce337d88da.jpg Has JPL or NASA released a new H...

Is this a 32 bit machine problem?

Hi. The Celestia161-ED install file is actually 3.3 GB in size, and 7.5 GB unzipped. Most of that size is due to a single add-on present in the "extras" folder of Celestia161-ED. That add-on is called "VT Earth". Unzipped, it is almost 6 GB of the 7.5 GB. I could remove it from t...

All Educational Activities updated for 2017/18

Hi all. After five years, I finally found the time to update all of the educational activities for Celestia for 2017. They use Celestia 161-ED, a specialized version of Celestia 161 that includes sound and Lua Edu tools. The updates took a month to prepare and include additions of new spacecraft, ed...

Re: Enceladus color surface map

Thanks for the texture. It is more detailed than what is on motherlode, and you did get some nice color into it. here is a screenshot with your texture matching the above picture. Perhaps NASA will get around to publishing a new texture that is identical to the original photo. Cassini certainly has ...

Enceladus color surface map

Now that Cassini is no more, I have been searching for an updated high-res color map of Enceladus, with hints of blue tiger stripes, and no more blurry surfaces. I found a grayscale big map of Enceladus on the NASA website, and I found lots of photos of Enceladus in true color, with lots of blue str...

All Educational Activities have just been updated

Sorry for your troubles. Fortunately, I have just updated the entire Educational page and its add-ons for 2017/2018. All files have been changed.
