Re: Upscaled planetary textures

I should clear up and mention some confusion regarding the map of Eros that was posted here several days ago, because there appears to be a lot of confusion regarding the map john71 posted and comparing the one to the one Gurren posted as well. The map is obviously not made in equirectangular projec...

I believe this issue is already known, and is caused by issues with the trajectory.

Re: Real Exoplanetary Maps in Celestia

All of the information required to make the maps was in the paper linked, which provided boundaries for the clouded longitudes. Another thing is that these maps may not necessarily be correct. This is the simplest model that is consistent with the observation but it's possible that a more complicate...

Real Exoplanetary Maps in Celestia

Very recently I derived this set of exoplanetary albedo maps from the phase curve data presented in Shporer and Hu (2015) . There is no color, only black and white, because phase curves were presented only in the Kepler band (wavelength 598nm). Black areas are unmapped under the assumption that the ...

Re: Upscaled planetary textures

Hi, This is a good attempt, but there are many problems. Uranus texture was nice. Original texture was fictional, by James Hastings-Trew. Most upscale programs are trained on either generalized algorithm or one specialized on drawings/cartoons (like waifu2x), so it works well with Uranus. Others no ...

Re: fyr02's Addons

several unfinished exoplanetary addons have now been released under the collective name "From the Vault". These were never released because I judged them not to meet my standards for release, so I apologize if these addons are of lower quality than my usual work.

the P9 texture is simply recolor of Astra's texture for Neptune anyways.

I should mention that the low albedo parts in the equator are hydrocarbon lakes in your texture, which is incorrect.

They are not actually lakes, but dark dry deserts instead. Only the dark spots near the poles are lakes.

Re: Jovian Moon Immersed in Jupiter's Shadow Always Glows at Wider Fields of View

When a moon (or any object) is too far away to be resolved, Celestia displays a white dot at the position of the moon so you can see it.
I'm not sure if this is something that can be disabled.

Re: Neural network image upscaling

Take a look at the upscaled picture above. Cupscale is doing MUCH MORE. It recreates the image at a higher resolution This is exactly what I am saying. The edge-detection algorithims that help to keep the texture clean at higher resolutions suffers from overfitting at this scale. Nearly all of the ...

Re: Neural network image upscaling

No, this is not what I am saying. I'm saying that in the case of this texture, it is not justifiable to upscale the Neptune texture to 16K. If you keep continually upscaling it to whatever resolution, eventually the data will be overfit and in the end you are not increasing the quality by much (in f...

Re: Neutron Star texture based in Neutron Star Animations by NASA

This is referring to the apparent brightness, not the absolute brightness.
i.e, from earth the neutron star is very dim, but up close it is still very bright, and the color is in fact as bright as the sun or any other star.

Re: Neural network image upscaling

This result is not much better than the 4K one.
all that is being done is edge sharpening and noise reduction on the clouds, which is both unrealistic and not worth the extra file space that comes with the 16K.

Re: Pluto spills the can of beans (Pluto's dark side reviled by charon)

This is incorrect (read the paper before posting !) - nearly all of the added portions contain no data, only a small portion of the map you added is real data, as only a small part of the south region was illuminated by Charon.

I recall a Juno map does exist, I can't seem to find it again though.

Regardless it is drawn over with text and labels and it's very low resolution.

DOUBLE RELEASE GO GET THE SYSTEMS NOW Gosh, this (particularly Koradeon) took longer than it should have. Repeated delays and scrapped system ideas really bogged down the creative process and made everything slower. This release is still nowhere near as polished as my own vision of the system but gi...
