Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars

Hello everyone! I have updated the Andromeda Galaxy and Triangulum Galaxy add-ons. The changes are: 1. I have removed one foreground star 2MASS J01334671+3054550 and made RX J0133.0+3039 a high-mass X-ray binary, according to Lin et al. (2020) : "Searching for Balmer-dominated Type Ia Supernova...

Re: Updated Binary Star Catalogue

Hi everyone! After a long break, I've finally updated this add-on. Version 2.2 of the Binary Star Catalogue is here, with the following changes: - Fixed distance of gam Del. - Fixed mass of 47 Oph B. - Fixed parameters of alf Gem. - Fixed mass, distance of 9 Sgr. - Updated orbits for bet LMi, alf UM...

Re: Neutron Star texture based in Neutron Star Animations by NASA

Hi,

Wouldn’t neutron stars still emit lots of visual light? Even if there peak of the spectrum is outside of the visible range, a typical blackbody spectrum still a long tail into the visible range:

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars

Hi everyone, unfortunately still on hiatus (real life is busy!), but I made a small change to the Andromeda Galaxy globular clusters file. I added EXT8, which looks like a typical globular cluster but has a extremely low metallicity of [Fe/H] = −2.91 ± 0.04. SIMBAD does not have the name EXT8, so yo...

I'm not sure where the actual center of mass is, but you could probably get it to rotate about whatever point you want by using the MeshCenter parameter.

Re: Asteroid Shape model collection

Not sure which of the models is the most accurate, but I think Hektor is known to be a contact binary, in which case Model B would be the closest to reality.

Re: Asteroid Shape model collection

Hey everyone, sorry for the late reply. Here are some shape models of 624 Hektor from Josef Ďurech (via Franck Marchis whom I emailed).

Models A, B, and C are the convex lightcurve models, a contact binary model, and an separate binary model respectively.

I also have a model of the near-Earth asteroid (214869) 2007 PA8. This one I also got from emailing Marina Brozović, who was the lead author of this paper: " Goldstone radar evidence for short-axis mode non-principal-axis rotation of near-Earth asteroid (214869) 2007 PA8 ". The format of t...

Re: Populating WLM (and other galaxies) with REAL stars

Hello everyone! I'm currently on hiatus from Celestia-related stuff, but in the meantime I have a small add-on. This adds the globular cluster in Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte (WLM). Parameters from Stephens et al. (2006) : "WLM-1: An old, Nonrotating, Gravitationally Unperturbed, Highly Elliptical Ext...

Could you give some more details? In what direction do you want to rotate your model 90 degrees?

Re: SevenSpheres' Addons

Hi Endeavor35 , It seems that Celestia can't find the proper parent bodies. The first thing I would do is to check that the files m_32.stc and andromeda_galaxy.stc are there - the latest versions can be downloaded here and here , respectively. I also see that you're using macOS - unfortunately macOS...

A while ago I compiled the cmodview utility on my computer. I'm not sure if it'll work on macOS Catalina, but I'll post it here.

it would be better if luke showed you how to change colors and brighten it so you get get it brighter and a creamy white as in the pic of the real thing The colors are derived from color indices from two papers ( Buta et al. (1994) and Buta et al. (1995) ); I transformed them using FarGetaNik's col...

That great resource has WD 1856 b, not WD 1586 b. I know they are easy to mix up 1856......1586.... You're right, they're easy to mix up... I even wrote 1586 in my own post. :insane: But it looks like the article https://gadgets.ndtv.com/science/news/exoplanet-wd-1586b-discovered-nasa-tess-2296737 ...

I would recommend Sirius_Alpha's exoplanet catalogue. It has all known exoplanets and is updated monthly, and it has WD 1586 b.

Updated Binary Star Catalogue

Hi everyone, A while ago on the Motherlode, I uploaded a catalogue of binary or multiple stars in Celestia, replacing 130 or so stars (with Bayer or Flamsteed designations) with binary systems using available data. Unfortunately, at the time of writing the Motherlode is still not functional, so I ca...

Re: Extrasolar, Stars and Exoplanets for Celestia

Here's a recently-discovered triple star system. TIC 278825952 consists of three stars, two of which are similar and on a tight, nearly circular orbit, and the third, which is on an unusually circular orbit around the two. Parameters from Mitnyan et al. (2020) . Barycenter "TIC 278825952" ...

Re: I'll need some help with the globular clusters

Hi Spaceman ! I tried your DSC code and it worked for me. MagniCluster.png The only "wrong" with your DSC file is that the RA is too high - for DSC files the RA is in fractional hours, not degrees, so it goes from 0 to 24. However, the globular will still work, it'll just be placed in an u...
