Welcome to the Isten System
As part of my final project in Fundamentals of Web Design (see my post "Help me with my homework" in the Celestia Users forum) I'm planning on finally completing an add-on system of planets. The version released on Dec. 10 will still be pretty preliminary, but it will be a starting point. The system...

Re: Help me with my homework
I plan on posting the results as part of my project documentation. It'll probably be linked the project Web site. I'll of course post a link in this thread.
Come on. Don't be shy.

Re: Help me with my homework
Well, that's why I need to do research I guess.
It is enlightening. Thanks for the help so far I look forward to more answers.

Help me with my homework
Introduction to Web Development final project anyway. I'm building a Web site about a system of imaginary planets. I hope to offer at least a basic add on download. So Celestia users are one of my main audience groups. So for the purposes of doing my audience research I thought I'd do an informal su...

Re: First of many planets
I'll bite. What can you do in PSP that can't be done in Photoshop CS or CS2?
I have to ask since I'm a Photoshop CS person myself.

Re: First of many planets
I seem to remember having a similar problem with LunarCell early on, but haven't had that trouble lately. Are you using version 1.5? My problem is if I try to generate a texture larger than about 5000 px it will crash. Oh, instead of uninstalling and reinstalling the whole filter, find the map it's ...

Re: First of many planets
Those are pretty sweet. Do you mind talking about how you created them? I'm curious. Since mine was just some LunarCell with some layer blending. I see some LunarCell in yours, but they also have a versimilitude that hint to using real world sources to add to them. Care to talk about your process?

Re: Building gas giants from scratch
Creating storm systems seems possible, but I think that's going to take a little practice to make it look right. So far I can create a roundish area that all the clouds displaces around. The toruble so far is that the storm itself has little or no detail left. The interesting development is that it ...

Re: Building gas giants from scratch
I gave it a second pass. Trying to see if I can generate replicatible, but diverse results. http://www.mancer.com/img/gas2tn.jpg Click thumbnail The liquify filter definately is a big help in this, without it I'd probably be pushing pixels around for hours. And stil the results wouldn't be as unifor...

Re: First Look At BlueMarble Next Generation Textures!
I don't see why they (the oceans) shouldn't be that dark. After all the surface at the bottom is basalt which wouldn't be reflecting much light, right? Could be wrong though. And the edges are much brighter just like the atmosphere, if that makes sense. Did anyone ever come up with good ways to work...

Building gas giants from scratch
Having searched the web and found only a couple of tutorials on creating a gas giant from scratch I decided to mess around in photoshop and see what I could come up with through experimentation. Also I wanted to see if it was possible to get a good result with a minimum of artistic effort. The more ...

Re: First of many planets
Selenian it is then. After all Stargen simply labels it as rock, with a picture of the moon, Astrosynthesis would file it under terrestrial, and I'm not picky.
It has a lot of craters. How big of a pic is too big around here?

Re: First of many planets
Yeah, don't abandon anything on my account. After all I already had jestr's Alien addon which is the exact same system. This is just the first system in an entire galaxy. Some people are doing Star Wars planets, some are doing Star Trek, Dollan's doing ArcBuilders, There's Orion's Arm and mine is te...

Re: Available for download - Asteroid Maker 1.6
Many, many thanks for even this version. I wasn't looking forward to the prospect of creating asteroid belts, now it's automated.
Will be staying tuned for updates.
Thanks,
brian

First of many planets
This is a planet in a large fictional system I'm creating. This isn't my first attempt, but I decided if I start sharing I might be motivated to work on it more. (Guess I should go sign back up at some comic drawing forum too. :? ) Anyway, my first system is going to be situated around Zeta 2 Reticu...
