Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

@selden A quick question. I have managed to get a copy of vcpkg going set for VS2019-x64-static. Cmake still doesn't find them since I have a non standard setup, but I am used to fixing that myself. However, there packages you are using that won't compile static via vcpkg even though the tool suppor...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

@John71 The fault isn't W10. As much as I would like to blame it, and its many many faults, it is not the problem here. The problem is likely a byproduct of going between platforms. render::captureframe is new, and has more features/options. I am unsure of how video capture works in linux, which is ...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

Concerning video "flip" needing doing. Thought it would be something I could do with compare and contrast and a few compiles. Just got done trying to compile the current commit, and what a mess it is now. Have to install a compiler, to build another compiler, to build a library, wow, no wo...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

A note on doing video recordings, speaking from experience. When I do recordings with Celestia, I use the following codec into avi. Lagarith https://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html It is lossless, and uses multiple cores. It is also open source and you can compile it yourself if you desire. Works as x8...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development Thread

@ cartrite Would have done more than lurk lately, but the pandemic has kept me swamped. Whole production floors of things with minor glitches that are never off, but now are, hence only a day off every other week when I am lucky. Got a note my name had come up, so I looked. Is your vcpkg set to down...

Re: Gaia search question.

@SevenSpheres Thank you very much. All of that information, and they fail to provide illustrations. Stuck in their own world where everyone who belongs already knows everything, so no explanation needed. Not their fault really, translating is hard. Could I impose further and ask how to determine dop...

Gaia search question.

Does anyone here know how to do a search of the Gaia data for a specific subset? In particular what I am seeking is extra solar objects with a parallax > 0.01 Or parallax > 10, depending on which way it is written out. I need position, proper motion, relative velocity, and whether it is approaching ...

Re: Historical modelling

Question. Could @grad_student use something like https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/hipparcos/high-proper-motion to create an addon which would adjust the positions of high proper motion stars? The list above is the top twenty, but more extensive lists should be available. I realize the target period wo...

Re: "Orbit Object" Speed

Be sure to save it in text only, ascii mode. Any extended characters and parsing will fail. Characters between 0x20 & 0x7F only, a single utf-8 character can break things. Notepad++, encoding ansi is the safest for windows. Convert to ansi if it is not already checked. All windows editors like t...

@Rockhead1959

With celestia closed, not running.
Open celestia.cfg in a text editor.
Locate the line below, about 2/3 of the way through.
You can also use ctrl-f in many programs.

RotateAcceleration

The default is 120.0, whereas I set mine at 10 or 15.

@Endeavor35

Have you tried wine for running windows programs on mac.
I don't use mac, but according to their website, they support it, and it is open source as well.

Re: Spherical Mirror Projection?

@Lendonqiwi If I understand you correctly, you are asking about the use of spherical projection with a curved monitor. If so, then the spherical projection will not help you. In part this is because monitors mostly display a ribbon at the equator, whereas spherical projection includes the sky. The i...

Re: Does anyone have this Earth with 1000M water drop as texture?

I find things like this interesting. One of my long term goals is create my own stand alone version of google earth on my own server. I want to play with ocean heights etc, but that is a long ways away. I do not currently have a spare server to give me all 197Million square miles of earth in real ti...
