Re: Black Hole enthusiats!!!
That is not the only "Black Hole" program that has just come out. Google video has just added a documentary from the Science Channel on Supermassive Black Holes. You can find it at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3834632996973653146&sourceid=zeitgeist Thanks VERY much for that URL. Re...

Re: Red orbit line
I don't think what you mean is a bug. try increasing the OrbitPathSamplePoints to 500 or even 1000. the bigger the radius of the orbit and the smaller the radius of the object the more will their path differ. this problem exists since celestia was created. Ah... I see what you mean. Thanks very muc...

Re: Red orbit line
This may be a related bug... When I select a non-planet (Sedna for example) and I have orbits being displayed, the bright red orbit is a nice feature, especially if you're trying to show where the selected object's orbit should be. On to the bug... When I select Sedna and tell Celestia to GOTO it, t...

Re: Nebula texture trouble
Bidmaron, Sounds like your texture may be too large for your graphics card (if any) to handle. On MY machine, if I try to use a 4k texture mapped to any of the planets or moons, I see excatly what you're talking about. I get a dull white or grey globe which feature NO details of the planet or moon. ...

Welcome to the most addictive stuff on Earth. This is worse than cocaine, heroine, and all the other "Good Feeling" drugs on Earth. When a program written by theoretical physicists grabs the soul of a working man (in my case a simple forklift driver) it makes you wonder why the folks in your schools...

Re: New here, couple questions
Sorry, I'm not certain that I understand your question... Have you tried using the FOLLOW {} instruction before trying to run around the selected object? If you like, you can download some previous scripts from the Clestia Motherlode in order to examine a wealth of other scripting endeavours. These ...

Vincent, are you saying that Adirondack is a sleazy car dealer ? 8) Better be careful here now... Some of us used car BUYERS have been very PLEASED with Ulrich's handling of everyone else's junk. I'd buy a used car from Adirondack sight unseen, and without any sales pitch. That's how much THIS ex-M...

Yes it's also a solution in which I was thinking, but the above is just to have a easy to read format (and also to update); you want to know all about jupiter system? just go to one place... Chris, I like the LOGIC of what you're laying out above, but I still agree with Malenfant here. Wouldn't it ...

Re: A few more IAU official names
I see no good reason at all for why we need to have so many separate files for moons. I don't care if they're numbered or not, or if they're big or small - they're all still moons. I'd rather see them all merged into one file, as I described on ElChristou's thread. Well I absolutely HATE to admit i...

"I??m becoming worried. It appears that every time, more and more people have better PCs with dual core CPUs and lots of RAM.My fear is 6 months or 1 year from now,the majority of the people will have these computers,Celestia will no longer be optimized for single core CPUs and I won??t be able to ru...

Nix and Hydra are in numberedmoons.ssc, Eris and Dysnomia are in outersys.ssc... I see... Yet another SSC file to keep track of. Sorry, but I think you can see why a particular moon's definition might be misplaced or confused with any other. Is the numberedmoons.ssc file used to contain those moons...

Re: A few more IAU official names
Bob, If I'm not wrong, Grant already update the concerned files for those objects... Okay, thanks Chris... It's just that all of MY files were not updated, and I just re-downloaded the whole Celestia 1.4 Pre6 and 1.5. Didn't see these changes anywhere so I just thought I'd mention it. By the way, a...

A few more IAU official names
In my explorations of the Kuiper Belt and its objects, I noticed that the IAU has given proper names to a few more of the bodies that lie within the recently re-defined Kuiper Belt. Just FYI, Pluto's very small and recently discovered moons are now named "Nix" (the inner moon) and "Hydra" (the outer...

Re: Physics and astronomy education videos
I think there's a PBS series called "The Elegant Universe" that's available for download too or on DVD, the book of that was rather good at explaining all the weird things like cosmic strings and rolled up dimensions and so on. Hey THANK YOU sir... I found the "Elegant Universe" movies available on...

It depends. If you're a christian fundamentalist looking to comfort your belief in creationism they may have some value to you. If you're looking for a presentation of the current status of scientific knowledge in astronomy and cosmology, they have none. Serious question from the Brain-Dead because...

It isn't clear to me if you're interested in DVDs or free downloadable videos. Carl Sagan's entire Cosmos series is available on DVD, of course. You should be able to borrow a copy of the set through your local public library. I have the Carl Sagan videos, but I was just curious to know if there we...

Re: Initial 1.5 Observation
Bob, Running as slowly as you see probably indicates that Celestia v1.5 is paging heavily. Is your disk "busy" light on? Yet another thing to check: does the v1.5 distribution that you're using include any hires textures? There are quite a few in the CVS repository. They'd make Celestia a lot bigge...

Also a number of documentaries an astronomy from the Intellegent Design viewpoint. I think you got your labels confused there - those aren't documentaries, they're fantasy. ;) Sorry, but (as usual) I'm lost here... The documentaries we're directed to here are fantasies? Does this mean that these pr...
