Commerical Celestia
I just saw a web advertisement for "3D Astronomer", which is a commercial release of Celestia. They've gathered lots of add-ons and other important content. I suppose they provide tech support. http://3dastronomer.com/ $49 and apparently Windows-only. They certainly acknowledge that it's C...

Error loading data files. Celestia will now quit.
I'm not getting very far with a Mac OS X build of the CVS version.
I can build OK with XCode but when it launches, an error dialog appears with the message, "Error loading data files. Celestia will now quit."
Should I be using a particular CVS branch?

Re: OS X Intel/PPC Universal Binary - Not Yet
I've gotten around to testing the 20060128-B dirkpitt build on my PPC laptop -- and it seems to run faster than the release 1.4.0 there, too!
Also OpenGL 2.0 rendering path seems to work, whereas it does not work with the 1.4.0

Re: Merry Mars-mas Celestians
Happy (lunar? Chinese?) New Year! Any word on that wonderful Mars texture? :) I am going to look into hosting this at work... EDIT: At this time I am asking that none of my textures be mirrored by anyone anywhere. I am sorry if this does not sit well with everyone but they are my textures and I want...

Re: OS X Intel/PPC Universal Binary - Not Yet
The most-recent dirkpitt build worked very well for me on the Intel iMac.
Oh my God - it's full of stars!

Re: OS X Intel/PPC Universal Binary - Not Yet
@dirkpitt: Thanks for the pm to your build a few days ago; the stars were not visible with that build, either. Actually it is weirder than that --- the stars can appear as very large, fuzzy spheres that are sometimes in the foreground. Or so it seems. But it is dependent upon the slider setting for ...

Re: OS X Intel/PPC Universal Binary - Not Yet
I received the iMac today, it's sitting here next to the DTK machine. I'd love to test the binary! I could also test some CFLAGS settings, if necessary. I pulled current from CVS, built an Intel binary. It Just Works! Except I cannot see the stars... none are rendered. I had to install a CelestiaRes...

Re: New Celestia-1.4.0pre-FT1.2 Version for Download
Edit: I un-commented the line about ignoring OpenGL extensions in celestia.cfg, and I am able to run this version just fine on my Mac Mini. It is FAST! :D IgnoreGLExtensions [ "GL_ARB_vertex_program" ] This build does not finish loading data on launch; it crashes before displaying the fir...

Re: More VC++ Woes
If you are new to the command-line tools for Windows development, you might not know about setting up your environment variables. In the Visual Studio directory tree somewhere, there is the VCVARS.BAT file. You need to run this to get the command-line tools to work correctly. Sorry I am not more spe...

cross-reference to celestia thread on gentoo forum
There is a Celestia and GCC 3.x thread on the Gentoo Forum
I think that we should also follow the Mac OS X development efforts, as GCC 3.x is the default compiler for the current release of that OS.

Re: GCC 3.2 -- Celestia can't build -- Gentoo
What kind of error do you get with gcc 3.2 ? Well, I don't have a full-up Gnome installation, but rather have the minimum set of pieces I need to use everything I've needed so far...in particular, I installed GtkGLCanvas, but the config dies at this point: checking whether to disable GTK.... no che...
