Re: New 64 bit 1.7 version suggestions and bugs

Hello, Many thanks for the replies. I'm not sure where John VV's add-on came from. I think it was sometime in 2012. The problem occurs when I run 1.7.0. Celestia stops loading while still in the splash screen phase. Saturnspice.ssc is indicated on the splash screen. I don't have the competence to wo...

Old addon stops Celestia 1.7.0 from loading

Hi, I've installed 1.7.0 in my old 1.6.0 Celestia folder on my Win10 laptop. It runs ok. However, initially it didn't and after some hit and miss trials I found that Johnvv addon Mercury2neptune stopped it loading during the initial splash screen. Taken out of the extras folders all works correctly....

Re: Stereo viewing in Celestia

I've just noticed a new addon at Motherload for a script to view celestia in 3D. I posted this item as my first post back in 2005 and it is excellent to see that NavigatorXL has produced a celx script to automate the process. Many thanks. I didn't have the to do it. Since then my eyesight has deteri...

Re: SPICE-Mercury to Neptune

Hello John I've installed the addon and it works really well. One particular benefit is that my FPS, with all orbits showing, is up in the mid 30's. I wonder why? The June 2012 Venus Transit is closer to the published prediction which was my particular interest. I thought I might try to calculate &q...

Re: Orbits lines with Spice

Many thanks John, Sorry for not replying more quickly but during the last 24 hrs. this forum has been down or a least to me. I had found the answer to the orbit length and after some trial and error discovered that earth years were the units for planets. With a Visible true and Clickable false defin...

Re: Orbits lines with Spice

Hello John, Many thanks for the comprehensive overview. I am reading through the various Spice pdfs and very slowly, am getting a sort of understanding. I will update the Solar System Spice Kernals and ssc's but that will a later task. I might wait until your next "production". It does see...

Re: Orbits lines with Spice

Hello John, Thanks for the superbly detailed reply. I am trying to get my head around the Spice file designation in order to get the current and appropriate bsp files. Is there an idiots guide? I will get there but my eyesight means that reading is quite laborious so I need more time than ordinary m...

Re: Orbits lines with Spice

Apologies all,
I downloaded a wrong BSP file and the scc was calling a file not in the Data folder.

Orbits lines with Spice

Hello, I've installed volcanopele's Solar System Spice addon using the BSP files specified by volcanopele ( some of them were archived). It works fine. My intent was to see how good Celestia's prediction for the Transit of venus due June 5th & 6th this year would be. The result for both the inte...

Re: Transit of Venus

Thanks John and GW for the in depth response which clearly shows that the transit is visible from London. I'm most puzzled though. My method of selecting London as the view point is:- "London" with Enter/Name/Enter then Ctrl G to go to the surface at London. The coords are shown correctly ...

Transit of Venus

Hello, A trasit is due on June 5th-6th this year and Celestia is a great way to see it. I have used Celestia to recreate Captain Cook's south Sea measurements from Papeete. However, there is an aspect that puzzles me, in both transits there is a discrepancy in that the timings of Venus crossing the ...

Re: Reorienting the Milky Way addon

Hi Seleden, Many thanks for your reply. I do find it quite a problem to use my computer as my eyesight is a bit dodgy, in fact I'm registerred blind but have some residual sight. I would love to build my own version of Celestia but I do get so many things wrong that it would be a bit of a nightmare....

Re: Reorienting the Milky Way addon

Hello to both Fridger and Guillermo, Many thanks for the v. quick responses. I understand Fridgers point regarding the unknown projection of the MW texture and the impossible task aligning it. I was simply trying to get some practice with the method, should a texture, that works with Celestia and is...
