You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help.
Sorry I don't have any other copies of the textures, though.

Re: Help with finding an old add-on
I found these directories (dated October 2, 2005) on one of my external hard drives: drwxrwx---+ 1 Unknown+User Unknown+Group 0 Oct 2 2005 'HD 28185 System' drwxrwxr-x+ 1 Unknown+User Unknown+Group 0 Oct 2 2005 'HD 28185 The Star' I zipped both directories into a single archive file and they can now...

Halonic Symbiosis
Gentle friends, One of the stories that I've been working on (for years!) is now available at https://www.orionsarm.com/fm_store/Halonic_Symbiosis_v2.html It's an "Interactive Fiction", meaning that it's in the form of a Web page. To read the (very short, partial) story and the (much longe...

Re: Spacecraft orbit: how to do?
If you are asking about how coordinates are used in an xyz or xyzv trajectory, then no. You don't have to provide many coordinates that are close together. Celestia interpolates between adjacent coordinates. When a trajectory is almost straight, like when traveling between planets, coordinates can b...

Have you double-checked the directions of the surface normals? Having them point in the wrong direction is one cause of unwanted transparency.Anthony_B_Russo10 wrote:No flickering, it is always transparent.

Re: Note on Selden Ball's Celestia website
Notice of site outage: My Web pages ( https://www.classe.cornell.edu/~seb etc) will be unavailable starting at about 6 AM US Eastern Time (10 AM UTC) on Friday, July 28, 2023, until about 6 PM (10 PM UTC) on Monday, July 31, due to a building-wide power outage. Re: Names of stars in the constellation Canes Venatici are missing from 1.7
Unfortunately, to be balanced, I think all of the spellings for the Greek letters should be recognized, no matter what the computer's Locale has been set to. Of course, this depends on people submitting appropriate translation tables.

Re: Names of stars in the constellation Canes Venatici are missing from 1.7
Unfortunately, if that's the problem, the new parser breaks many existing scripts. I really don't have the time to try to find them all. I believe that Celestia 1.7 needs to recognize all of the Bayer star designations whether they're abbreviated or spelled out and all of the IAU constellation names...

Names of stars in the constellation Canes Venatici are missing from 1.7
Stars in the constellation of Canes Venatici are not recognized by Celestia v1.7 commit c2320637 and others. They are recognized by Celestia v1.6.1 and v1.6.2.2. Please restore their definitions. This .CELX script demonstrates the problem: -- this script attempts to mark stars of the constellation C...

Yes, my hardware is old. It does what I need, though. Fortunately, I don't need hires textures.

by Art Blos » Today, 00:51 Tell me in more detail, on what system, what bit depth and what video card did you test? Was it a PC or laptop? The framegrabs above were taken on an old Lenovo ThinkStation E31 desktop: Core i3-2120 with Nvidia Quadro 600 GPU at 1080p with 32 bit screendepth. See below f...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
Celestia 1.7 win32 can achieve 60 fps at the same PC without any problems, but Qt fails? How is it a GPU hardware problem? I can imagine a bug in the card's firmware associated with some specific graphics feature that Qt5 uses only in some circumstances. At any rate, the problem would have to be in...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
@Art Blos I downloaded Celestia Origin and extracted its Mars virtual textures (mars, mars-normal and mars-topo) and clouds (mars-clouds.dds). I could not find their .ctx files, so I created those myself. I extracted the Mars definition from the solarsys.ssc included in Celestia Origin, prefixed it ...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
@john71 Yes, that's with Celestia-qt. See the Celestia screengrab below. As for system settings, I have the computer's power management set to "performance" mode. I've left most of Nvidia's Control Panel's settings unchanged, but, if anything, the ones I changed should make it slower. I ha...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
@john71 It's really strange that your GTX 1050 Ti is so much slower than my ancient (and slow) Quadro 600. On my computer, Celestia-qt 1.7 gets 60fps in a maximized window while looking at the Earth with clouds and shadows enabled. Some things that might be related (other than bugs in Celestia's Ope...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
I seem to have found a way to crash Celestia c23206e7 consistently: Using a specific Celestia URL to view a Cube object in the solar system and wiggling it around slightly always crashes Celestia within a few seconds on my computer. Detailed step-by-step instructions and the associated Addon are in ...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
@john71 What CPU do you have? Celestia is single threaded and runs only on a single core. It's often CPU bound. Getting only 15 fps on a GTX 1050 Ti seems *very* strange. The lowest dip I see in demo.cel is about 33 fps. That was briefly at the very beginning and for a longer period of time later wh...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 windows installer
Neither version of Celestia is crashing for me now, either. (Globulars are still enabled. I even went to 47 Tuc) I'm wondering if it's a "phase of the moon" effect: Something that was in the field of view but isn't now was being disruptive during startup. Sometimes they crashed immediately...
