I am getting the message:
"Unexpected number of colors"
when I run the "project" line of the script you gave me for MMPS. I have tried to convert the image to 8-bit palleted but got the same message. I am using the exact same file (098.png).
any suggestions?

Re: Converting Mollweide Projection to Plate Carre
The website where this image was downloaded is: http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/data/composites.html It is a global infrared compsite image which represents the cloud cover on April 4th, 2007 at 00:00 GMT. I just called it Mollweide because of the image in your "Creating Textures for Celestia" do...

Converting Mollweide Projection to Plate Carre
I have a nice Mollweide Projection that I would like to use (eventually as a cloud map) as a texture in Celestia. http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/c/p/cpm169/098.png This image was downloaded from the Space Science and Engineering Center from the University of Wisconson-Madison website. I have read...

Re: Ecliptic vs. Equatorial Plane
Wonderful idea!!!
You were correct in what I was doing and your solution will work perfectly. It's so much easier than what I was doing just now--trying to find alpha and gamma for Euler's equation for 3D coordinate systems. UGH!
Thanks a million.........!

Ecliptic vs. Equatorial Plane
I created a data file (*.xyz) for an asteroid with heliocentric coordinates. I wanted to take a small chunk of data and convert it to geocentric coordinates to see the path from earth's perspective. After changing the *.ssc file so the asteroid orbited the earth, i noticed that all the coordinates w...

XYZ files
Is there a limit to the size, number of lines of data, or number of years that a SampledOrbit (.xyz) file can have?
We have a 10,000 year integration we're trying to get Celestia to read.

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
Selden, I really want to thank you for taking the time to help me. I think I've got it figured out now. If you would be interested, I would like to show you last summer's project I made. It is a 53MB animation (2 minute AVI) that shows seasonal polar ice migration along with the specular reflection ...

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
I just took the flare.jpg file and made it all black and it took the starburst effect away but now there is still a corona.

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
Fantastic!! It worked. Now how do I get rid of that "corona" effect on the new earth/sun object? Change the SpectralType parameter?

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
Do i need to tell Celestia that i have a new file called newstar.stc or will it just pick it up during the load at startup? I did add those other parameters and nothing happened, but here is the current file: star 0 "esun" { RA 0 Dec 0 Distance 0.003 SpectralType "G2V" AbsMag 4.83 Radius 6378 Textur...

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
I made a file called newstar.stc and put this in it:
star 0 "esun"
{ RA 0
Dec 0
Distance 0.003
Radius 6378
Texture "earth.png"
}
Nothing happened. What am I doing wrong?
BTW Selden, is the cyan color on my posts hard to read to you?

Re: Changing the radius and texture of Sol
Hey thanks! I'll try it both ways to see which one will work better. I do prefer editing the solarsys.ssc file because i've done it so many times before and i have never created a new solar system....but....here we go.....!

Changing the radius and texture of Sol
I would like to know how I can change Sol's size and texture. Specifically, I want to replace Sol with Earth. This way I can have the moon as the only orbiting body. This summer's research project will be a lot easier if I can get the Earth/Moon system to act as a solar system with Earth as the Bar...

Re: BMNG Seasonal Imaging for animations
It is definitely going to be worth the wait. I can see how much effort it requires just for each local area not to mention both poles for 12 images. ugh! I'd help you out if I only had the time and energy....

Re: BMNG Seasonal Imaging for animations
Will the images you are working on be able to show the specular reflection? That is one of the other big requirements for our animation. I'm pretty well along creating the CEL file. Once you get done with your editing (and please don't hurry on my account :) ) I'll just plug them in and recapture th...

Re: BMNG Seasonal Imaging for animations
I am still in the process of making all 12 seasonal textures with the polar ice fields expanding and contracting with them. It just takes time. I am also applying my ocean layer that smooths out and adds some detail to the palin dark oceans. I don't have a timetable on the release but I am about ha...

Re: BMNG Seasonal Imaging for animations
Yes I have DL'd those textures but they do not show the polar ice caps and the surrounding sea ice that changes dramatically during the seasons. Those BMNG images don't have sea ice for some strange reason. :( I saw some texturs that Don Edwards (i think) made but i could not open the zip files--but...

BMNG Seasonal Imaging for animations
Here is what I would like to do: ...make an animation of earth going through it's seasonal changes (ice cover mostly) using 12 monthly seasonal images that are available on the BMNG website and use them for the earth textures. I noticed however that their images do not show the ice coverage over the...

No, the moon orbits were not checkmarked. Thanks a million for making me feel stupid HAHA. But here's the funny part, I just insalled 1.4.1 on my laptop and made some animations without even looking at the VIEW OPTION menu, then I installed 1.4.1 on my desktop and assumed that it would be the exact ...

Moon orbits are not rendering
planet orbits are fine but the moon orbits are not rendering. Is this because I have a GeF4 TI 4200 video card? Everything else shows up great including the highres images and the 4th texture level for Nvidia cards. I have all the latest upgrades for my card.
