Re: Moon Bump map
Thanks a lot John. Your bump map is awesome. What is your setting for elevation though? The standard 0.3 value in solarsyss makes for an almost completely flat (and dull) moon. I'm currently using 3.5.

Re: High Quality 64k NormalMap VT of Earth
Grateful as I feel for all the impressive textures and add-ons I downloaded so far, I'm really looking forward to install what feels like the ultimate "skin-set" for Earth.

Re: Do I need to delete 1.3.2 version before downloading 1.4.1?
Being using Celestia 1.3.2 for a yer and a couple of months, I was quite curious to try the new 1.4.1 version. Renamed my 1.3.2 installation folder, and proceeded on installing 1.4.1. Improvements looked so inviting, I decided to try to move from 1.3.2 to 1.4.1 along with Gregorio's educational acti...

Re: New Cassini Jupiter maps
Are you sure Fridger? I have this faint memory of high school astronomy lessons and Jupiter was said to have missed the critical mass to become a star itself, but still emitted more light than it received from the sun. Well it's just a memory and it was just high school. But, perhaps a certain lumin...

Re: Saturn(ish) higher resolution map (warning: big graphic)
Hi Fridger, I remember the thread about your Saturn texture and specular settings. As a matter of fact, I use your "blue hat" Saturn as the high-res setting in Celestia. It looks very good (definitely better than the standard texture) when the rings cast their shadows on the northern hemisphere. But...

Re: UPDATE!! - Ultimate Terraformed Mars Texture
Once again a very very interesting texture that make me sorry for not going thorugh the Celestia guide thoroughly before buying my new graphic card. Haze makes such a great difference.

Re: Saturn(ish) higher resolution map (warning: big graphic)
I don't know about realism either, but it definitely looks a lot more interesting with that kind of detail. Personally I tried to make "my" Saturn a little more interesting by adding a very faint specular effect. In part to compensate for the lack of support of the haze for ATI cards. If you want to...

Re: 64K/128K Blue Marble Next Generation VT PNG !
By now I tryed only levels 1-2. As you can see from the pictures posted in this thread there is a darker area near the coast line, and then the sea gets slightly lighter everywhere else. It feels like the continet were clipped from another picture and pasted on a lighter background. Apart from that ...

Your kindness is almost extraterrestrial Don. Taking the time to make an ATI users friendly version of your cloudmap being the ultimate example.
I tried it and it's just that touch that adds up and makes Mars more real. Thank you

Re: UPDATE!! - Ultimate Terraformed Mars Texture
You really made Mars a nice place to be. And once again you made me regret not reading Celestia documentation carefully before buying the new graphic card. Look at that nice haze over there

Re: The New Mars Texture
Giorgio, If you are familiar at all with any image editing programs you can make a haze layer and blend it with the cloudmap. I do this for my Earth clouds. I didn't bother with the Mars clouds as they are rather hazy to begin with. I am sorry you cant get the haze setting to work on your ATI card....

Re: The New Mars Texture
Thanks thanks and thanks again. Mars looks even better now. I'm currently downloading both the 16k DDS texture and your most wanted and needed 4k cloud map. From the pictures you posted the results are magnificent. As usual, I'm just sorry there's no support for haze with ATI cards (I even tried Orb...

Re: hires, medres, lores?
I, for example, use this trick to change between different cloud maps for the Earth, since you can't load different cloudmaps using the alternative maps string. Don Edwards map for better pictures from afar, Brady's 16k VT for closer pictures and Schmidt's 32k VT for, how should I call those, portra...

Re: Earth Maps with political boundaries
Apart from that great borders overlay map, which is also part of my current installation of Celestia as a VT alternative map for earth, you can also find an interesting political map with 2003 international borders and names for the countries, here: http://www.celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php...

Re: Merry Mars-mas Celestians
Don, I'm really drooling over the idea of having your Mars cloudmap here on my pc making good company to your pretty mars 16k texture. Could you help me make this dream come true, or I'm really afraid I'm going to end up drowning in my own saliva, and, quite frankly, I was counting on passing away m...

Re: Merry Mars-mas Celestians
Thanks again Don for your great work and your attention. I'm currently enjoying your Mars textures and will try the newer ones when (and if) you''ll release them. Re: Merry Mars-mas Celestians
So I finally downloaded the files to try them. As reference I'll say I normaly use John Van Vliet 32k VT and normal map for Mars. I may be wrong, but I still feel John's texture is somewhat more realistic from a distance. Perhaps due to some telescope pictures of Mars I've seen? Perhaps just a memor...

Re: Merry Mars-mas Celestians
Static images of this new work by Don Edwards look very good. How do they look in motion? And in combination with the normal maps? Do they still look good or do they show incoherent lightings and shadows? Anyway, do you also plan to make a cloud layer for Mars? That is much needed and would add the ...

Re: Thread Renamed - New Mars Textures
I could really use some new cloudmap for Mars. I'm currently using John VanVliet's Mars VT and, I think, what should be his cloudmap. And i think I had your previous Mars DDS as part of F.Gregorio's pack called general add-ons for celestia. Your newer version looks far better, with far less of the p...
