MHO: Ever heard the term "MipMapping"? That's what you'll need here - enhanced by the concept of using only a subset - the visible part - of the textures. There's not even a "location"-button/-menu in the gtk (i.e. linux) version of celestia 1.2.4 - none that I'm aware of, anyway.

If you have installed gtkglarea after your first attempt to run "./configure", you should delete the file "config.cache" from the celestia source directory. Since RedHat 7.3 comes without gtkglarea, this could very well be the problem - also hinted at by the "(cached)" in 'checking for gdk_gl_query...

AARGH! :oops: looks like my /usr/lib/libGL.so was not as healthy as all gl progs but celestia considered it to be. resorted to reinstalling the NVidia driver rpms and ... voila! celestia is back - as beautiful and interesting as it used to be. Thx for caring about newbie probs, ppl! :roll:
