Re: When selecting fuzzy points or scaled discs stars dissapear

I have the same problem. If i select scaled disk or fuzzy Points, the stars dissapear at a distance >1 Lj. I think, the Problem ist the new ATI 8.1 driver. Before there was no problem. System: ATI x1950pro @ ATI 8.1 without CCC @ WinXP SP2 By this i found, that a handfull stars (HIP 65421, HIP 93784...

Re: Celestia 1.4.0 prerelease

Hi, if someone like to play with Sol in a quadruple Starsystem, try this. It?s just for fun and to learn, how the new parameters work. I love the new version of Celestia. Great! There?s no physical correctnes, but i try to make it as real as possible. I also began with the code from Evil Dr Ganymede...

A couple of questions regarding accuracy.

According to some brief research, I've learned the Betelgeuse (ALF Ori) is about one thousand times as massive as Sol, and Mira (OMI Cet) is about the same size, if not larger. However, Celestia does not reflect this. How can stars.dat be edited for accuracy, and what's the largest acceptable star ...

I believe, your right. But it doesn?t work. I tried on jupiter, but the position won?t change.

Some ideas for our great developers

Hi friends, if i played around with celestia, i got some ideas for tools: first: a stars.dat explorer/-editor i think about an external tool to edit the stars.dat more comfortable. it should have some features: - a GUI :) - the possibility to search a star by it?s assigned numbers/name - translate t...

Hi Alfred. and now i continue in German. Welche Grafikkarte benutzt Du ?

Re: Here is a new stars database for Celestia

There could be another problem with HD 169197. When I have some time, I will remove HD 42272 from the database, and look for other stars with strange values. It will be soon a stars database V1.1. Yeah, i think, there are some other. If i look in the starbrowser, more than 500 stars are within 11 l...

Re: Here is a new stars database for Celestia

Hey, absolutly top work :!: :!: :!: That?s great, i love it and it will be my standart database for now. Waiting 15 years for GAIA to be completed will be much easier. But what?s star HD 42272 ? Nice to see, that Sol now has a companion :D We should call him "Rigel" and rename beta ori to something ...

Hi xBlob,

there is a modified galaxies.dat from Paul in a previos post with 75 galaxies and 50 GC. Search for "galaxies.dat" in this forum.
A galaxiebrowser is a nice feature. I think, i heard about this and chris is eventually working on.

Re: Tycho 2 Catalog

Yeah, but by then NASA will have increased the Earth's polygon count, added a new reflective vertex shaded moon, and applied lightmapped lens flares to the sun. Also, in the future we'll have a new ray-traced Jupiter to look forward to in the night sky... cool, are these features possible also for ...

Re: Tycho 2 Catalog

I think we have to wait for 2012 when the mission "GAIA" from ESA is startet. This mission will catalog aprox. 1 billion stars with very accurate paralax and other data like spectral class and magnitude. It?s only ten years :? Up to then Hipparcos will be the best source. p.s. NASA plans also an mis...
