Ah ha. Now I get it.
Many thanks.

Re: 2M stars.dat catalog issue
Ah ha. Thank you.
The first thought that springs to mind would be to "randomize" the distances at these distances to minimize the banding, but I can understand also why not to.
Anyway, thanks again.

2M stars.dat catalog issue
First of all, it's great to have Celestia development active again. Second of all, this isn't a bug in Celestia, but rather the 2M stars.dat add-on. I've been playing around with the pre10 build (haven't had time to reinstall the final) and after reading through the forums, downloaded the corrected ...

WOW
This looks awesome. Keep up the good work, and I'm sure to a beta-tester once you reach that stage.
This would make my dream of creating all of Niven's Known Space that much easier.

Welcome back Chris!
Just wanted to say that I stopped by during this slow morning (it's a ghost town in the office this week, I think I just saw a tumbleweed blow down the hall to Finance) and was overjoyed to not only see that Chris is back and active again, but that progress is being made and 1.4.0 is close to being ...

Can of Worms? I hope not!
I've been perusing the forums after having not done so for a very long time, and, boy, a lot has happened. Anyway, I'm not trying to open up any old cans of worms, but I've gotten the impression that, while no one is currently doing regular prerelease builds of Celestia for Windows, there did exist ...

Re: Confine This Filter To Sol - (cooler post than that sounds)
Whoops, sorry. It is Windows only. The version I downloaded did a completely separate install, but I've seen posts that suggest there's an add-on version that complements your existing Celestia installation. There's a batch file in MH that generates imaginary planetary systems for the entire star ca...

Check out Mostly Harmless http://mostlyharmless.sourceforge.net/index.htm.
It'll do what you want, but not the way you think.

Save As Dialog in F10 Screenshot
I noticed that all the complaints in this thread were about the pre-release versions, but I just wanted to chime in with the fact that I get this too with the official 1.3.2 release. About 1 in 5 snapshots have the Save As dialog box in them. I've got a AMD 1800, WinXP Home, Chaintech GeForce4 Ti wi...

I can't respond to the poll, because I leave mine at 10.00, and you don't have that choice available.

All I can say is... Re: Sad day for the Space shuttle & Crew
I just wonder about the self-professed morality of a person who claims to care about the millions of sick and dying people in third world countries, yet spends time that could be better used at a homeless shelter or an AIDS clinic perusing a forum about a software simulator.

Can I make galaxies brighter?
Is there any way to up the "brightness" or magnitude of galaxies (I'm assuming that magnitude is appropriate to apply to galaxies)? I want to zoom way out and get an idea of the "superstructure" of the galactic clusters and "webs" that are formed by the strings of galaxies. Doing this with the label...

The best format for a User Guide would probably be HTML. Then you have no worries about cross-platform/cross-application conversions issues.

And another question:
Why is the upper left quadrant showing more stars than the others? I used F10 to create the JPGs.

Ringworld again
I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in Bugs, but seeing as Ringworld is not "canon", I figured here was better than there. So, I'm zooming around the Ringworld system, and having all sorts of fun, but when I try to zoom out for the big picture, something distracting happens: Each picture is t...

Re: Ringworld and such
Anyone got the figures for the puppeteer system? Was it called a quintet ? I believe Niven referred to it as a Kemplerer rosette , but there were 5 farming worlds, and one world much like Coruscant (i.e., all city), because the puppeteers were herd creatures and liked being overcrowded. So essentia...

Re: Ringworld and such
When I first discovered Celestia, one of the first thigns I decided to try was to recreate some of the cooler places in Niven's Known Space, e.g. Jinx: http://www.windyoaks.com/celestia/Primary&Jinx.jpg But I knew that Ringworld was beyond me. Imagine my delight when I discovered marc's Ri...
