Re: New comparison addon (work in progress)

Another very good idea, looks really great. But you can use it to show more than just sizes! This is a very good moment to show shapes of stars and their changes too. Giants in general are not perfectly spherical - it's impossible on this scale! Maybe you should try to make a giant as a combination ...

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

t00fri, please... A few years ago I wrote some points about addons, there was an answer like "we have more important things to do". Last days I wrote my suggestions once again - nothing has changed.

I understand that I definitely try too often.

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

t00fri, I dont understand your arguments, to tell the truth. I know you - developers of Celestia - did an amazing work. But please let me tell you that there are other people too and that they have their rights to tell their opinions. And my opinion is - especially after your latest answers - that y...

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

Yeah, my proposals aren't original, I know. I wrote them here many years ago :-P (3?) Nothing has changed. This is our reality: people download the basic version of Celestia, install the basic version of Celestia and judge the basic version of Celestia. And we still have thousand things - things whi...

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

t00fri, you dont need to be rude. There are people on this world which do not care about money. I know they are, because I'm one of them. In my country there are thousends of ways to make money and none of them is connected to popularization of science. So PLEASE dont use that "argument" next time y...

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

selden, in my opinion the coherent system of easy-to-download-install-and-use extensions is the fastest method to make Celestia significantly better and the most important thing to do now. I know this program quite good, I put them on a few cover disks in Polish computer magazines and you know, what...

Re: Full-time on Celestia!

Great news, Chris, I hope Celestia fans will see the difference soon and I hope you will have a lot of fun - and not only fun - while making Celestia better. I dont want to turn this thread into the next "what to do first" song, but your words, fsgregs, are imo very important. Celestia is a great co...

Re: Mitaka Version 1.0 was released

Cham, is it possible to use the same methods to model star streams around Milky Way? I think it could be really interesting to make the model of Milky Way in Celestia as accurate as possible. What we have now, is the main structure of stars in the Galaxy. But Milky Way is a product of many collision...

Cham, In case you want to make more of these wonderful addons... I've found a few interesting links about interior of Sun. I hope they will be useful for you: http://www.astro.physik.uni-goettingen.de/research/solphys/esonne.html http://universe-review.ca/R07-01-Sun.htm http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.go...

I think there is no need to comment. Just check - they have amazing textures of planets and satellites.

Volumetric structures in the Universe - an idea

I've just found a very interesting project about visualization of volumetric structures in the Universe. May it be possible to make something similar in Celestia? Scientists like to show their efforts to wider publicity, so who knows, may it be possible to receive scientific data or even real 3D mod...

Re: Interior of the planets

Really nice work. It's definitely a very useful extension. But... (there is always a "but"...). You see, I think that this extension is too perfect. It copies the popular model of Earth interior, with sharp edges between layers etc. This model is wrong. The interior of our planet is very very dynami...

Great link, thanks. In the link section you can find a next link to a small software - a simulation of Antikythera mechanism. Direct link (safe): http://download.lavadomefive.com/members/Lysozyme/Blitz-Basic-files/The-Antikythera-Mechanism.zip It's amazing to watch this mechanism in action. Here is ...

Re: Do we really have stars in Celestia?

t00fri, I'm not a movie fan, but a science journalist and physicist. I do not share meaningless links. Most of these movies are made by or in cooperation with such kind of organizations like Institute for Astronomy and Space Physics (Uppsala University) or Astrophysical Institute in Potsdam. You can...

Do we really have stars in Celestia?

OK, I know we do. But our stars are very gentle stars: just spheres with textures or - if you have installed an extension - flares. But real stars aren't so gentle, especially if they are giants. Let me show you what I mean. Here is an image from a numerical simulation of a giant like Betelgeuse: ht...

What about... particle physics in Celestia?

I'm not a programmer, so I am unable to write such kind of addon, but what do you think about particle physics in Celestia? OK, I know, it seems to be a serious mistake, because we are talking about something very small in a program to visualize something very big... But there are events, where you ...

I have a very sad news for you.

This is not a lake :-) This is a 200 m high sand hill covered by a thin layer of snow and ice.

Don't belive BBC or CNN, believe me!...
