Re: Google Sketch-up to Celestia

Hello, Thank you for bring this subject up because I also considered using the multitude of starship available in the Google 3D warehouse database and putting them in Celestia. That would be really interesting for those who like Sci-Fi stuff in Celestia. I have tried to export models of Google sketc...

Re: weird

actually the problem is solvable because I don't I have it anymore. Yet, I had to wait for formating my HDD to solve it. Maybe I could solve it without doing such a thing by uninstall drivers and reinstall them?

sand glass shape

Why do the remote galaxies look like an "sand glass" shape? Is there anything to do with the minkowski cone? here is the selden's addon: http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/images/screenshots/extrasolar/2DF_100K__Selden.jpg here are several minkowski cones: http://www.theculture.org/rich/sharp...

Re: exoplanets detection-radial velocity

I heard that when you had that kind of data: http://cannon.sfsu.edu/~gmarcy/planetsearch/51Peg/51Peg_phase.gif you were able to determine from P (also called T) the distance,r , between the exoplanet and its star (we assume it's an circular orbit). We have to use the keplerian law: rp= ( (T^2*G*M)/(...

Re: exoplanets detection-radial velocity

The orbital period is also known, isn't it?

if it is so, then how? does the spectrometric detection of radial velocy method give that orbital period?

Re: exoplanets detection-radial velocity

When the mass of the star and the planet's orbit are known, it is easy to measure the minimum mass of the planet using Kepler's laws

How is it possible to have that planet's orbit? does the knowlegde of {radial velocity}=f(t) (f a sinus-like fonction I assume) allows that?

exoplanets detection-radial velocity

Is it possible to have some informations about this method of detection? something is not clear: how the varation of radial velocity of a star around the barycenter of its system can allow us to have informations about the planet orbiting around this barycenter as well? I am aware than we can deduce...

But I thought that galaxies moved away from each other? I thought that more a galaxy was far, more it moved quickly?

How am i suppose to insert those codes in the script?
Should i insert them as they were simple letters?

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download

It is true that it will be quiet hard to draw a topological map with the Locations replaced by Xs . However, is it possible ,at least, to have a location indicated by a plot? For instance, there is a small village in Brittany called "Saint-M?©loir des Bois", you can admit that is a bit long. So when...

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download

Perhaps, this web-site do not have a editable-database.But, it has the capital avantage of mentionning every little places in the whole world, with exact coordinates(including elevation)! It allows at least to draw a local tipographic map. To my mind, it is enough. BTW,thx t00fri for the regular loca...

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download

i tried with the village in tibet (china) nyetang (elevation:about 4480 m) it seems to work! it is really great. now we can see the montain in pseudo-3D. of course we cannot have the whole planet in toplogic representation but it better that nothing. BTW, what is the importance of a location? is it ...

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download

i was talking about that coordinate:

Location "Chahar Burjak" "Sol/Earth"
{
LongLat [ 62.20 34.25 0 ]
Importance 4.16
Type "City"
}

what is it? if it is not the elevation?

Re: 8200 (!) Earth locations ready to download

i found that website, maybe it will interest someone. it is very exhaustive! http://www.heavens-above.com/countries.asp that site give also the elevation. Does the third coordonate(often a 0) is the elevation in the ssc file? what if we add it in Celestia. Thus, we are able to value the elevation of...

Re: binary star

i'm quiet relieved that n masses trajectories are ploted with accuracy.
hence, the trajectories of 3 masses in a binary system is reachable.
I will look for the ploting of such trajectories.
thx to make me understand.

Re: binary star

So if I understood well, all non-analytically described trajectories cannot be incorporated in celestia (apart xyx trajectories). As the trajectories of three masses cannot be described analytically. the only way is the xyz? in that case, this pointless to think about it currently, because I underst...
