Re: Help! My Unicorn run away... (REDEEMED)
About 5 years ago it was realized by some theorists from Stanford and Trieste that tests of Newton's law did not exist at distances smaller than about 1mm! . So in view of the above said, a huge new 'fashion' took off, since suddenly there was the exciting possibility that large extra dimensions of...

Sex is not possible !
nice to see you too Fridger. I like TOEs too. Well, ok - let be serious. Sex uses motion. It contains a remarkable mystery, worth a second look: - motion is the change of position with time of some bodies. - position is what we measure with a ruler. Time is what we measure with clock. Both rulers an...

warped?
are you mean warped extra dimensions or you mean collapsed extra dimensions?
read somewhere that according to string theory the BigBang could be nothing more but collapsing of some dimensions

Here is nm16 for Windows !
Hello All, thank to Chris for the usefull tool. I have ported the utility nm16 under MS Windows and put also some enchancements. Usage: nm16 <width> <height> <bumpheight> <filter method> <fileIN> <byteorder> <NODATA value> <fileOUT> - fileIN is the name of the input 16-bit elevation data file (img/d...

Re: - Earth Central For Celestia -
praesepe, thanks. after a post the replay, u tryed it and it worked. and it works a little bit faster than with two different textures. The whole idea of using a separate spec file is that you may use a much worse resolution for it than for the main texture, which saves /a lot/ for people with old ...

Re: News from SPACE-GRAPHICS.COM Textures
Hi Fridger,
Now I guess you have to detach your 16K Earth to mipmaps, to delete these under 16K resolution and to create new ones by resizeing your 16K collor-corrected variant.
BTW do you need my nice 16K Polar Caps. I can give you them both for free.
Bye
Pixel.

Re: News from SPACE-GRAPHICS.COM Textures
Hello Mario, as I know there are plugins for PS and dos tools for DXT compression. But they seem don't work on large textures. Fridger had several tips how to avoid this, but it seems to me that people still have problems with this. So I can propose my solution. It is little bit barberian but works....

Re: News from SPACE-GRAPHICS.COM Textures
Hello Mario, congrats for your good textures! I don't know if they are the best though. And in which sense. I thing that the current issue is not related to your decision to sell textures. The problem is that Celestia is free software and ppl here belongs to so called free community. They are hobist...

Pixle, How did you make the 16k Mars & earth maps ?? was it devil or dxt-tools? Ive tryed useing dxt1a & dxt1c even with 8k x 8k and it always crashes, my pc has 512M ddr ram & 4G virtual mem. & Win2k pro. thanks for your input & help. Re: Mars 16k dds
Try this: http://edu.kuopio.fi/~sarkiniemi/celestia/mars16k.zip there's also Earth 16k dds http://edu.kuopio.fi/~sarkiniemi/celestia/earth16k.zip Miika these have been produced by me a year ago. They have static bumps (relief), have no specular channel, and also Earth has no polar caps on it. The o...

Re: - Earth Central For Celestia -
Don, why don't you separate Earth specular map from the base texture. Then you can compress the base texture with dxt1 instead of dxt3. You will get twice smaller(and faster) dds file. Also then you can use lower res separate specular map in dds format also. Celestia supports separate specularmap te...

Re: Playing with my new 16k DXT1 NormalMap!
Hi Fridger, I have a true 16K EearthBump texture, based on 1km-elevation GLOBE project: http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/topo/gltiles.shtml the bump-map on SpaceGraphics is also based on the same data, but it is only 10K and also has been postprocessed - i think unshapr filter has been used, or somethin...

Re: A new look of the Earth. New (4k) textures inside!
I dunno, but here it was quite impossible to work with, cuz no more than 512 meg ram and no scsi drive :( or 4x 15000 rpm scsi raid, that's what you'll need for this job! i have 256Mb ram, but for this monster i don't use PS nor Gimp. I use my programs plus one good old dos utility - ImageAlchemy w...

Re: A new look of the Earth. New (4k) textures inside!
The 16k earth is quite different from the new 4k earth you posted here lately. The latter one is the blue marble right? Or is the 16k BM as well, just different filters? The land shallow topo 21600.tiff, what kinda file is that? The new4kEarth i posted here is not BM version. It is modified hires t...

Re: A new look of the Earth. New (4k) textures inside!
Yo Pixel, love what you did, but a few questions: how did you get the blue marble? How big is it? can't you make a earth16k blue marble file? Thanx I used the two 21k Earth hemispheres maps. East hemisphere is 410Mb tif file and West hemisphere is 246Mb tif file. I concatenated them (using my progr...
