Re: How wrong is the view from distant stars?

Thats's interesting, Hungry4info. Thanks for explaining. I had some vague idea that there must be some uncertainty in how far away the stars are, but didn't have a feel for how big it was. Still, the idea that there's probably a lot of random error in the star positions doesn't really bother me. But...

Re: How wrong is the view from distant stars?

It's a difficult question, but do you have any intuition how big the difference is? Is the view in Celestia from HD 278942 (600+ light years from Earth) a little bit different from what it would actually be, or so far off as to be completely fictional?

How wrong is the view from distant stars?

I'm assuming Celestia doesn't re-calculate all the star positions when you move to a different star to extrapolate what you actually would have seen from there at that time. But how much of a difference would that make? Obviously the view from Alpha Centauri is almost identical to the view from here...

Re: RAN III Event Timeline Exploration Aid

Now, i wonder if the ultimate fate of the boat that launched the Grand Tour Probe from Hroenn is in that spreadsheet... OH. MY. FREAKING. WOW. That is so cool I can't even swear right. What a genius way to "animate" that. It's so clever, and it looks great. My kids and I had a great time ...

Re: Ran III Released

Actually, I only meant that I've traced the Orion back to it's appearance in the Ran System. I was kind of disappointed looking at it's orbit because I initially thought I was just seeing a limitation on what Celestia could render (and perhaps, in a sense, I was). I did not at all expect what I foun...

Re: Ran III Released

Just wanted to say that this thing is astonishingly cool and fun. It's almost like a Myst-style adventure game in space. I've just barely scratched the surface, tracing backward from the Grand Tour Orbiter I've found the Orion and seen where it came from. Very cool. And I've also discovered the myst...

Re: RELEASE: Ringworld

This is a really fun add-on, rthorvald! Thank you very much for making an sharing it.

Made me grin when I saw that Fist-of-God has...avoiding spoilers here...the same properties as it does in the book. Well done.

Re: Anyone have a .ssc file for jestr's moons?

it looks like you will need to add them BY HAND .Every one ,one at a timel. Yes. Exactly. A big job. That's why I was wondering if anyone had already done it could just send me their .ssc file. And yes, as I mentioned above, I'm already using your great models & textures for Mars's moons. Thank...

Re: Can I start fullscreen?

Hey! I think I fixed it. I selected my desired resolution and then hit ALT-ENTER a couple times switching back and forth between a window and full screen before closing Celestia. That seems to have made it register which resolution I wanted because it's stuck on the right one now when I go to full s...

Re: Anyone have a .ssc file for jestr's moons?

Most of those moons have already been classified in either poormoons.ssc, minormoons.ssc, numberedmoons.ssc, or in the solarsys.ssc files. Do you have all of these SSC's? The minormoons.ssc I have (the one that came with Celestia) just uses the default asteroid.jpg texture for all of them. If I wan...

Re: Anyone have a .ssc file for jestr's moons?

Oh, sorry. I meant to say the moons found here: http://jestraddons.250free.com/moons/moons.html It's a lot of moons to modify .ssc entries for, and I was hoping someone might already have done it and be willing to share. Thanks for the response, Mr. van Vliet, and thanks for all the awesome textures...

Re: Can I start fullscreen?

Thanks for the reply, Selden. For some reason, no matter how many times I select 1440 x 900 x 32 from that menu, Celestia keeps going back to 1360 x 768. It does that both if I use the -- fullscreen switch in the program's shortcut or if I use ALT-ENTER to switch to full screen. Is there a setting i...

Anyone have a .ssc file for jestr's moons?

I just downloaded all of jestr's moon textures and models and before I go through and edit my solarsys.ssc file by hand, I was wondering if anyone already has one that points to all of jestr's moon models and textures?

Re: Can I start fullscreen?

Is there a way to start full screen at a particular resolution?

For some reason, when I start Celestial with the "-- fullscreen" option, it starts at 1360 x 768, but my desktop is set at 1440 x 900.

I'd like Celestia to start at 1440 x 900.

I'm running in Windows XP.

Full Screen/Cursor questions (I'm trying MesaFX)

I thought I'd try the MesaFX alternative to OpenGL to see if it worked better on my Voodoo3 card. It does, and it doesn't. It gives me a full-screen picture, and runs much faster, but Glide *only* works full-screen, which causes some problems. When I have Celestia running full-screen this way, I can...

Re: Assorted questions, mostly about models/textures and orbits

Wow, thanks, Jestr! Those moon models and textures you've made are spectacular.

Are the brighter colors artistic license, or are they based on actual photos?

Assorted questions, mostly about models/textures and orbits

Is there a option for alternate textures with stars? Or is there a way to get the star textures to change resolution when you change resolution with r/R? (I have a nice pretty gstar texture, but it's too big for everyday use--I get a hiccup every time the Sun comes into view). Does anyone have a wor...

Yikes! It ate The Moon!!

I was playing around with the models and placement of the Apollo landers trying to mix models from different sources and get the sizes to match. I saved the .ssc file and ran Celestia and told it to go to Apollo 11 LM. What I got looked like a screenful of garbage. As I used the mouse to pull back, ...

Re: Models on the surface of planets

Thanks for the Shuttle orbit. I thought about trying to duplicate the ISS one, but I didn't know which parameter(s) to tweak (or what magnitude to tweak them) to put it in a similar orbit but not right on top of it. Maybe I was looking at the models from the wrong angle, but I don't think so. For so...

Models on the surface of planets

When I go to see stuff on the surface of planets (such as the Mars pathfinder or the Atlantis shuttle sitting on the launch pad in Florida), Celestia zooms way in toward the planet, an extreme close-up of the planet's texture fills the screen, then before I see the spacecraft model, the planet compl...
