How about, instead of hiding away object-specific metadata/scripts inside context menus, we expose more info/controls in the hud? This would increase the usefulness of the hud, and also make metadata more accessible to Celestia newbies.

The OGL2 is a little bright if you have a specmap. This is a known bug. The stars also disappear when a planet or moon is in the view. This includes the Sun also. This is NOT a bug, but a result of the adaptive exposure kicking in. Note that for planets with already very low magnitude (e.g., Pluto)...

I don't see any of these issues.. it might help if you could try and narrow down the list of addons that could be causing the problem. Do any of your addons use the Timeline feature?

I'm not seeing any shifting in full screen. Are you using Lua tools?

Dockable panels might be good, but how about tabbed interfaces too? (e.g., the long-forgotten supertab experiment)

Echoing Fridger's sentiments, I personally like Adobe's approach. Hitting the tab key in Photoshop for example instantly hides/shows all tool palettes. Very simple and effective.

Just to clarify, FSAA has been available for other platforms too in the official 1.5.0 version of Celestia (non-Qt4).

Yes, but with the console celx, don't you have to enter text using the Celestia console? That's inconvenient - no cut/copy/paste, no autocomplete for script commands etc

Geometry shaders certainly could be used instead of point sprites. The problem is that only very recent graphics cards--GeForce 8 and Radeon HD--support them. Fully-hardware accelerated support would require such cards, yes. But driver-level support is available even for the Radeon 9550 and better ...

A nice tool "box" to create would be a spacecraft control tool with solid arrows in a diamond pattern for directional control. And the other controls, gas pedal, brake pedal, stop pedal, pitch and yaw pedals etc. And a speedometer, altimeter, etc. Perhaps some of these might be best left up to a us...
