Re: New content and interactivity in next Celestia
How about, instead of hiding away object-specific metadata/scripts inside context menus, we expose more info/controls in the hud? This would increase the usefulness of the hud, and also make metadata more accessible to Celestia newbies.

Re: HDR: High Dynamic Range illumination
1. Appearance and dissappearance of stars is a little too sudden. In fact appearance is gradual (but fast), while dissappearance seems completely abrupt. 2. Appearance and dissappearance of stars does nor work the same when the sun is eclipsed behind a planet, and when you move it out of the screen...

Re: SVN Windows Executable
But I did notice that you had to move farther away from the Earth to get some stars to appear. This screen shot is about 544060 km away and some stars are visible. .. This screen shot is about 310720 km away and the stars disappear. On my Mac, I didn't have to move that far away to see stars. I'm g...

Re: SVN Windows Executable
The OGL2 is a little bright if you have a specmap. This is a known bug. The stars also disappear when a planet or moon is in the view. This includes the Sun also. This is NOT a bug, but a result of the adaptive exposure kicking in. Note that for planets with already very low magnitude (e.g., Pluto)...

Re: Bug (osX) on today built
I don't see any of these issues.. it might help if you could try and narrow down the list of addons that could be causing the problem. Do any of your addons use the Timeline feature?
I'm not seeing any shifting in full screen. Are you using Lua tools?

Re: Square stars / no stars in 1.5.0 on Mac ?
Are you sure you meant all Mac ATI cards Chris? Do we know of any that are for certain working right now? --Chris No, I was just checking to see if you meant it since it's going to be affecting all Mac ATI users. BTW, I think that blacklisting by the word "ATI" is enough to cover all known ATI rend...

Are you sure you meant all Mac ATI cards Chris? The code change for stars would be easy enough.

Re: Square stars / no stars in 1.5.0 on Mac ?
Since I'm also one of the unlucky Mac ATI users I shouldn't be laughing, but the title on that opengl-mac liist posting just cracked me up. "What the poop" indeed... oh wait, good lord! I have to put Radeon HD cards running on the latest OS on the point sprite black list too?! Sui, Paul: Could you r...

Re: Celestia UI redesign
Dockable panels might be good, but how about tabbed interfaces too? (e.g., the long-forgotten supertab experiment)
Echoing Fridger's sentiments, I personally like Adobe's approach. Hitting the tab key in Photoshop for example instantly hides/shows all tool palettes. Very simple and effective.

Just to clarify, FSAA has been available for other platforms too in the official 1.5.0 version of Celestia (non-Qt4).

Re: Celestia 1.5.1 features
Yes, but with the console celx, don't you have to enter text using the Celestia console? That's inconvenient - no cut/copy/paste, no autocomplete for script commands etc

Re: Celestia 1.5.1 features
4. Okay, now my ideas are really running wild: What about an integrated plain text editor in the new GUI that could be called upon? Not quite the same idea, but an "immediate mode" script interpreter might be a nice idea. Type in a script into a editor inside Celestia and the script commands execut...

Re: When selecting fuzzy points or scaled discs stars dissapear
Geometry shaders certainly could be used instead of point sprites. The problem is that only very recent graphics cards--GeForce 8 and Radeon HD--support them. Fully-hardware accelerated support would require such cards, yes. But driver-level support is available even for the Radeon 9550 and better ...

Re: When selecting fuzzy points or scaled discs stars dissapear
I've been somewhat out of the loop, but apparently there have been multiple reports on the Mac recently too (Leopard 10.5) that the latest OS broke point sprites, so there's some independent confirmation there. Could geometry shading provide the equivalent functionality of point sprites? I think wha...

Re: A trip to north India
And there is so much scrap and dirt everywhere (cows, pigs, dogs, monkeys and even human shit everywhere in the streets, etc). I guess this means Indians on average are at least pretty resistant to allergies... I heard that too little exposure to dirt and stuff makes you more prone to asthma for ex...

I'm back home. Not in a very good shape, however. Got sick two times in India, because of the food. The pollution there is simply unbelievable. Welcome back! By sheer coincidence, my folks back home also went on a trip to India last month. While the photos they took look bloody awesome, they got si...

Time zone settings added to Mac OS X version
I added timezone settings to the OS X version's Set Time panel. This is basically the same functionality that was recently added to the Windows version. There are two extra popup selections: - Time Zone: ⋅ Local Time (your system's time zone) <-Same as current behaviour ⋅ UTC (GM...

A nice tool "box" to create would be a spacecraft control tool with solid arrows in a diamond pattern for directional control. And the other controls, gas pedal, brake pedal, stop pedal, pitch and yaw pedals etc. And a speedometer, altimeter, etc. Perhaps some of these might be best left up to a us...

Re: Advanced lighting?
My main development platform is OS X. I can compile for Windows, but for me it's a chore so it'll have to wait. Anyway... ElChristou and I were talking about night textures and how their brightness is unrealistic in the current version of Celestia. For example, using the classic DMSP data we're look...
