the other question

YOu still havent explained the fact that mother's break the laws of physics by being at the exact place at the exact time that a child does something wrong. This in and of itself is faster than the speed of light.

As for the speed of light, light travels slower thru mediums such as water.

Speed of light

everything from infrared to ultraviolet including the area of the spectrum we associate with light travels at 186000 miles per second, in a vacum. As previously stated, there are instances where that is exceeded. However, in a non vacum enviroment, the speed of light is not 186000 miles per second. ...

how do you mark the barycenter

alright, stupid question, how do you make a barycenter without a steller primary to occupy it?

question asking for an impossible solution to add on problem

ALright, as soon as I get my cable connection, I have a really huge addon to post to the motherload. However, I would like to add a few tweaks, and since i will have at least a few weeks before cable can get thier digital fiber out this far to serve the high dollar subdivisions south of me here in t...

Very dumb question

Is there an easy way to determine orbits of planets around stars?

I have looked at the stargen utility, and while it sets up nice systems, i am unsure how to take the data and put it into celestia as orbits.

The next step, presumably, would be to upload it somewhere?

Of course, with the solar system to go with it.

Of course, setting the thing up and getting it to work is kinda the first priority.

Re: What music you like to hear while using Celestia!

I listen to a 5 hour playlist of classical, new age instrumental and contemporary native american music.

I also find that working on items for celestia, and just cruising the galaxy, time kinda gets lost.

Question bout an add on idea

I am wanting to model something similiar to the badlands from the DS9 series around a solar system. Figuring this area of "foul weather" to have a 40 AU radius, with the solar system sitting in the eye of the storm so to speak. I have got the model made, just unsure of next step.

Re: Holy Grail of Astrophysics

eburacum45 We use the quantum foam type wormholes in Orion's Arm; the rotating kerr-type holes don't seem to be traversible. Funny you should say that, i was setting up an avi for a webpage showing a ship passing through a worm hole. As soon as the ship passed through, the image of the even horizon...

Aint this a kick in the pants?

First, Special Relativity itself was superceded by Einstein’s own more powerful General Relativity (1915), in which faster than light travel is possible under certain rare conditions. The principal difficulty is amassing enough energy of a certain type to break the light barrier. Second, one must th...

Speed of light in a vacuum?

Hey Dirk, uh, space is not a vacum. Granted it is close, but you have to consider that there are gases, dust and lots of stuff floating around out there. Since the velocity of anything is affected by whatever it passes thru at any given moment, the only finite speed of light is measured in a man mad...

Re: Holy Grail of Astrophysics

According to some people in a chatroom i frequent, there is a matter of disagreement concerning the light barrier in the first place. 1) It seems that in particle accelerators, the speed of light is exceeded, 2) light coming from the far side of the sun seems to show up before the planet or object e...

Holy Grail of Astrophysics

Alright, throwing startrek's warpdrive out of the picture (inerta would splatter the crew on bulkheads) how is it even theoritical to make the trip between stars in a reasonable time? Orion's Arm wormhole's are a good idea, the jump gates, even babylon 5's gate system, although i really dont think y...

To answer the evil doctor

Evil Dr Ganymede said: Why do you ask? A few of us on an irc server thought that a forum for scifi short stories would be kinda fun. Since I have been 'nominated' to set up the systems, and get the images, I figured that might be a nice orbit for a jumpgate. The other thought was putting it between ...

Has anyone ever tried to set up an orbit in the solar system that is 90 degrees off the eliptic plane, between earth and venus?

Celestia biased against .gif format?

I changed all images to jpg, and bingo, there they were.

Are .gif formats unreadable in celestia?
