Re: What about a texture I'm making?
I did a new texture, this time, at least to me, more realistic. Is it better? This time I put a link due to the larger size of the image. This time I also did a better position of deserts, based on latitude. But next time I'll try to make this image even more realistic. http://i25.tinypic.com/hu11tl...

What about a texture I'm making?
Hi, I'm making a texture for my Solarius system (maybe it'll be an add-on one day), but now I'm making a texture for an alternative Earth, called Gaia. Gaia has a radius of 8750 km, but is a bit less dense than Earth, having gravity about 10.63 m/s?. It has average temperature of 7?C, but due to the...

Re: You know you're addicted to Celestia when...
When you try to create a very well made add-on, so well made that you never finish it... In my case I'm remaking the entire solar system.

Re: Terra's sorta Second moon (Cruithne)
And if the asteroid had the same mass of our Moon? Would it still have the same strange orbit or would be attracted to Earth, becoming a true second moon?

Re: The trouble with fictional planets
That's why I only create planetary systems in fictional stars. So I don't have to worry about such thing. For example: I'm creating the Solaris system, in which is a binary system with 2 dwarf stars: Solaris, K3V and Nemesis, M0V. Solaris system is not a truly extrasolar system, but an alternative v...

Re: Water Confirmed on Mars!
But we can't put too methane in Mars atmosphere because it will be transformed into a Titan-like world. What I want to say is if we put too much methane, this gas will suffer reactions by ultraviolet light, because G2V stars emit much ultraviolet and there's not a magnetic field. So because of the l...

Re: I saw huge Neptune in the sky ( a dream I had )
Interesting. Maybe you had sort like a premonition. I never had such type of dream. In fact, for me, any event from space in my dreams are very rare! To tell the truth, I don't really remember if the Neptune in the sky was really a dream or just my imagination when I was awake. It's because I do nor...

I saw huge Neptune in the sky ( a dream I had )
Long time ago when I was a little boy, I had a strange and curious dream. It was night and I was at my grandparents apartment. It was a very clear sky full of bright and also dim stars. And, as I remember, suddenly I saw a huge blue ball in the sky that had many details, like many small white clouds...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
Yes, there are more fertile regions, more forests. But not all fertile places are dense forests. There are still some dry lands. I don't think the fact of having or not fertile regions will inhibit the development of intelligent life. There are many more reasons for the development of intelligent, s...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
I did a new map. It'll be my last map of Waskn'Narax and this time it's the most similar to Earth. I lowered 2km of ocean level, raised most part of submerged mountains and plateaus and lowered the ocean floors. I also put water inside some parts of continents to make deserts more fertile. I removed...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
Let me explain this map better. Antartida, in the south pole, is very fragmented. The big green island, to the right of North America-like region, is Atlantis. More to the right, is "Africa" ( having a huge Saara-like desert with some big oasis and a dense jungle to the south ) , "Eur...

Re: Waskn'Narax, the 2nd Earth
I used the high resolution textures from the Visible Earth site. The only thing I do is to brush selected small or big parts of the original to a smaller one. Later, if needed, I modify the colours of the resulted texture. But it takes lot of RAM to load such big images in Photoshop. Also, I spend a...

Re: If Mars had a magnetic field, like Earth...
In my add-on, Cydo'Nia and Cythe'Rea orbit each other. Cydo'Nia is like Mars, but geologically active and with life. The same for Cythe'Rea. The fact of they are orbiting near each other makes intense vulcanism. One is tidal heating the core of the other, so they'll be active for many and many billi...

Re: A better version of our Solar System
What I'm doing is not a system equal to Solar System, but an alternative version. Solaris is, yes, another system. It's in Andromeda galaxy and have 2 stars. But it has many similarities with our system, compared to all the extrasolar systems found. In my alternative Earth, called Waskn'Narax, some ...

Re: A better version of our Solar System
I decided to remove Jupiter because it'll cause problems to the asteroid belt. And also because I want a hotter Titan, so I have to move Saturn closer to Solaris. Saturn will be smaller, having a radius of 50000km to allow the formation in the asteroid belt, being at a distance of 6AU. But don't wor...

Re: A better version of our Solar System
This alternative solar system will be called Solaris. The "Earth" will have Waskn'Narax texture. ( see in the textures forum ). The "Moon" will be different and have few craters, because the surface is always changing by volcanism and tidal heating. Mars will have a an earth-like...

A better version of our Solar System
In my point of view, the Solar System should be: ( maybe such type of system could exist ) The Sun should be a little colder. Being a bit colder and smaller, the Sun would stay in main sequence for more time and produce less ultraviolet. Maybe our Solar System should have 2 stars orbiting close each...

If Mars had a magnetic field, like Earth...
If Mars had a magnetic field like Earth, I think it would be hospitable to life. Our magnetic field protect us from radiation and avoid atmospheric erosion by the solar wind. So with that, Mars should keep a thicker atmosphere, even at it's lower gravity and also most deadly radiation would not reac...

Re: Plants on other worlds may be a different color than green.
In the case of planets orbiting M dwarfes, if there's a big earth-like moon orbiting near a massive gas giant, such moon would receive lots of radiation from the planet that would hit the atmosphere, forming ozone layer. But such moon must have magnetic field to protect itself from higher radiations...
