Re: Transit Collection
Is there any chance Celestia will be given this kind of accuracy for going ahead 10's of thousands of years? It should be possible, but is it feasible?

Re: Too Soon for Tyche?
There are different aspects of the story on different media. Of course the geniuses at Fox news and CNN are delivering it as fact and are even showing "pictures" (drawings) of it. On the net it is given as possibility. They (the astronomers) say the data will be released later this year. B...

Too Soon for Tyche?
There is all the buzz today about the possible planet Tyche. It has been theorized for years, but a couple of guys from University of Louisiana at Lafayette claim with data from the Wise Satellite Telescope they have strong evidence which they will present later this year. Probably too soon for an a...

Re: Save View Options
I found one quasi-acceptable method for doing this now at least in Windows. Consider something that might be a default view. Set all the view options desired. Save the URL. Create a desktop shortcut and paste the URL. Now the shortcut can be used to start Celestia (or reset view options in a session...

Save View Options
A cel url can change the View Options. This is reasonable as they are necessary to certain views, but sometimes they get changed quite a bit from what I usually like to see. So I end up changing them back. What I would like to see is the ability to save a 'default' View Options. Then to be able to R...

Re: Some old cel's don't work
Hi, Thanks for the info. A long time back I had posted some interesting transits and occultations. Data for some planetary interactions can be found at http://www.projectpluto.com/mut_pln.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomical_transit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occultations Some of the ones...

Some old cel's don't work
Hi, A long while back there was a favorite views thread such that contained (for example) "9 BC Mars Transits Saturn" which I originally posted in 2004. After a long hiatus I've reinstalled Celestia to find that it no longer shows the right view. However, it appears that this cel was fixed...

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)
Also on the same page they had the date of the Transit of Saturn from Neptune in 2061. To see this one all you have to do is live a long time and hitch a ride on a ship to Neptune. Or you can see it now via the link. cel://PhaseLock/Neptune/Sol/2061-05-29T18:05:23.71915?x=aF/C6HwlFr8SDQ&y=ac8jj4...

Re: CHECK THIS OUT
Still good nonetheless. Aspects can be found where the sun passes through the rings such that they can almost be counted. A nice simulation.

Re: CHECK THIS OUT
I was going to mention this picture but since there is already a thread on it, then a question. Is it possible to simulate this in Celestia? I don't have the most up to date Cassini trajectory but I'm not sure it would work anyway. The angular size of the Sun and Saturn are just too different as see...

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)
Oh what was I thinking. It is the last line of the Controls Help. Either Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert will do it. It places the url in your clipboard, then you can place it on your address line in your browser to test it. Thus, your favorite becomes: cel://Follow/Sol:1998 KY26/2015-06-27T03:13:06.57654?x=y...

I figured it out. You have to edit your favorites.cel file and append it to the end.

Re: Centauri System
Apparently, I have learned, the 1.4 beta aims to be able to show orbits of multiple star systems. I haven't tried it to see if it is implimented yet, but there is a new beta coming out in a few weeks.

Centauri System
Today's APOD is Proxima Centauri http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap051204.html
The Centauri system consists of 3 stars. Is there any way to show these three stars and their orbits on one screen?

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)
I think I know what's going on. It's the xyz trajectories. To test this hypothesis, remove all of your addons from the Extras folder. Then use the URL and follow Enceladus again. (I'm assuming the trajectories are in data folders somewhere within the Extras folder, that you didn't put them in Celes...

Re: Favorite Celestia Views (a cel://URL Repository)
Sorry: I just don't see the effect you describe. I just see the visual separation between the rings and the moon smoothly decreasing as the viewpoint gets closer to Enceladus. There is the differing background light due to the location of Saturn, but that's the only variation I see. And I didn't ev...
