Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
I really meant it as a compliment, it's waaay too detailed

Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
Seeing as how I'm completely ignorant when it comes to creating 3D graphics, I hope that people who make different earth textures put them up here so people like me can download them. Rassilon's texture is simply un-usable for practical purposes, unless you're running it through one of those compute...

Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
LOL, my framerate went down to less than 1 frame per second with this texture! I know my computer is really pathetic, what with only a 1.33ghz CPU and a GeForce 2 card, but can you make the texture less detailed (but having the same colors) so that the program doesn't freeze up for 50 seconds at a t...

Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
Wow, now that Earth looks so much better... you mind putting it up for download somewhere?

Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
Can someone extract or simulate the texture of Earth (and the clouds) in this screensaver and stick it into Celestia? This Earth texture makes Celestia's look incredibly cartoonish. Also, the atmospheric fog/fuzziness around the planet... it produces a very photo-realistic effect. Any way to do this...

Re: Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
Who here has actually seen a real lensflare with a mk1 eyeball? I don't agree with your opinion that the Celestia program is supposed to reproduce eye-quality visuals. Is it not animation? Is it not displayed on a computer monitor? The visibility (or lack thereof) of lens flares by the naked eye is...

Atmospheric dawn-shines, fog, and lens flares
http://www.fpsoftlab.com/earth3d.htm Go to that site and download a shareware 3D screen saver of Earth (also available are Mars and the Moon). What this program does is what Celestia SHOULD be able to do, and someone needs to get on it right away :) Specifically, I'd like to point out the less blan...

Re: clouds & weather sat
I doubt that even a corporation like Microsoft, with a development budget in the millions, could successfully implement such a feature without serious bugs... not to mention the fact that this would mean that clouds would no longer be animated and you would not be able to go back and forth in time w...

Re: Crashes to Desktop near complex objects
I posted a near-identical thread on this forum about this same bug, and no one responded to that either
I doubt there's a forthcoming patch any time soon, just from the fact that everybody seems to show a great disinterest to it

Some of you might find this interesting
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The moon hurtles overhead, appearing close enough to touch, before the view shifts to a stomach-churning swoop into a deep gorge on Mars in a new planetarium show that few will be tempted to doze through. "Infinity Express," a 20-minute excursion of the universe previewed on...
ISS crash
Since today (and I can't explain why, I've not done anything to the PC), every time I try to zoom in on the ISS, Celestia crashes with the error: The instruction at "0x0366eb64" referenced a memory at "0x033f8018". The memory could not be "read". I have 256MB of RAM and 32MB of video (GeForce2 MX).....

Can't "lock on" to planets
When you're at an extra-solar object, like any star, and you decide to go to a planet in our Solar System (any planet), when you type it's name by pressing Enter, it never accepts the command. It always ignores it, as if I typed it incorrectly. I'm forced to type in "Sol" followed by the planet's na...

Earth is sometimes BLACK & WHITE
Earth is sometimes displayed as black and white. Most often, it is when I first start up Celestia. Sometimes when I move away from earth and come back to it, it's black and white again. I can make it in color again by going to Full Screen mode from Windowed Mode, and vice versa. All other stars and ...
